Spotlight Recruit: Gavin Theriot

Gavin Theriot

Class 2026, Offensive Lineman, Gavin Theriot, Ovey Comeaux High School.

What I love about High School football in Louisiana is that you can cover the state, go to 60 to 75 high school football games a year, 40 practices in the Spring, different high schools, and several in the fall, and still, there will be sleeper players to find.

That is the case when I took a trip to Ovey Comeaux High School last week to visit with the team after I watched game film from the week before and noticed a player I did not see on the team in 2024, and I did not see him for the Spring or Summer for this year. This kid caught my eye with great feet, tough, high effort, and the game seemed to be easy for this kid. That player is Gavin Luke Theriot, a 6-4 and a half 240-pound Offensive Tackle for Ovey Comeaux High School in Lafayette. This kid, in my opinion, has a chance if he keeps working hard to be 6-5 300 pounds with feet in college, good hand placement, tough, and has the stuff to be great in 2 years or less from this day moving forward for college. With only 1 year of varsity as a astartee, Theriot is a name to remember for the future, and colleges need to watch his senior film.

I remember when Kevin Mawae was a Senior in High School for Leesville Wampus Cats, he was 6-4 ½ 240 pounds, and this kid reminds me of the same build and mold of a Kevin who became a 6-5 315-pound NFL Hall of Famer and LSU All-SEC Center. I am not saying Gavin will be in the Hall of Fame, I am just comparing the body types for the position and what he could become with hard work, and is Athletic enough to move to Center and learn that spot in college, like so many players playing Center for the 1st time in college, or stay at Tackle. Just Remember this Ovey Comeaux HS has had a history of late bloomers to become stars in college Malik Nabers LSU Offered late in recruiting was going to Mississippi State, Brandon Stockley WR NFL & USL was lightly recruited , and WR Tre Harris in the NFL signed with Louisiana Tech wasn’t offered by LSU and had a great career with Ole Miss all Ovey Comeaux HS Alums.

Gavin Theriot is also a really good Basketball player and Baseball player for Ovey Comeaux High School. Gavin also carries a 3.0 GPA.

Gavin's brother was also a Basketball player at Comeaux High School, Caynen Theriot.

Comeaux has been through a lot this past year, and we might not have a huge fan base, but that doesn’t change how I play. I’m motivated by my teammates and the work we put in together, and the things we have been through this year are unmatched. Whether there’s one fan or a hundred, the goal stays the same, which is to win and compete at the highest level of football.

Quotes from Gavin

“My position coaches have taught me a lot, not just about technique, but about discipline and accountability. Helping me see the game differently, breaking things down, reading keys, and understanding how to play smarter. They really emphasize doing the little things right and being consistent, and that’s helped me grow a lot as a player this year.

I am trying right now to improve my footwork at the right tackle position I play, pad level, and hand placement in pass protection. At the college level, the Defensive Linemen are quicker and stronger.,So I'm working on matching that speed and staying balanced. For Tight end, I'm working on refining my route running and getting in and out of breaks quicker. I also want to keep improving technique and hand placement so I can be more dominant in both the run and pass game.

My biggest hobby right now is Bodybuilding. You can’t just sit there and think you are gonna grow in any type of way. It’s a grind just like football; you can't just sit there and expect to get any recognition or offers without consistent grinding. I like challenging myself in the gym and staying consistent with my workouts and diet. It’s helped me build both physical and mental toughness that carries over to football.

I don’t currently have any offers, but that just pushes me to work even harder. I know my time’s coming and I'm doing everything I can to put myself in the best position to earn those opportunities,” said Gavin Luke Theriot.
