Recruiting Spotlight: Carter Sternberger, Linebacker, Haynes Academy, Metairie, Louisiana
Linebacker Carter Sternberger of Haynes Academy is a competitive recruit in Louisiana's Class of 2027. Standing at 5’10’’ and weighing 190 pounds, Sternberger has the potential to make an impact at the next level.
Sternberger put together an elite junior season, recording 118 tackles, which broke a previous school record of 115. He also received all-district and all-metro honors. Sternberger also received LAFC and LSWA all-state honorable mention. Sternberger also was a member of the track team, where he placed second in the 4x400.
According to Lee Brecheen, Sternberger has the competitive edge to make an impact at the next level.
“He competes at a high level, and he’s a big-time leader, which is one of the reasons he’s a 4-year starter,” said Brecheen.
In the classroom, Sternberger maintains a 4.0 unweighted GPA and a 4.9 weighted GPA, and he scored a 30 on the ACT. Once he gets to college, Sternberger wants to major in either mechanical engineering or biology.
Sternberger spoke on the advantages that come with playing football for Haynes Academy.
“Haynes has an awesome fan base and is incredibly supportive of its student athletes both on and off of the field. Coach Sprunk came in last year and completely changed the culture of our team. My teammates and I are truly one big family,” said Sternberger.
Sternberger currently has offers from Milsaps. St. Norbert, LCU, and the University of Pennsylvania. He also attended camps at Tulane, Rice, Sewanee, LCU, West Florida, and the University of Pennsylvania this summer.
Sternberger’s father and his three brothers all played football for East Jefferson High School. His oldest brother, Karl Sternberger Jr., played at Nichols his freshman year before sustaining an injury.
