Recruiting Spotlight: Nate Smith, WR, Claiborne Academy High School, Haynesville, Louisiana
Wide receiver and defensive back Nate Smith of Claiborne Academy High School is a sleeper prospect in Louisiana’s Class of 2027. Standing at 5’10’’ and weighing 170 pounds, Smith showcases a lot of talent and skill.
Smith put together an impressive junior season, recording 749 receiving yards with 26 receptions and 13 receiving touchdowns. On defense, he had seven interceptions, 57 total tackles, two passes defended, and two fumble recoveries. Smith was also a member of the track team, where he was a back-to-back long jump state champion, and he finished 5th in the 200m at state. Smith was also a state champion for basketball.
According to Lee Brecheen, Smith is a sleeper who can play both sides of the ball.
“He’s a sleeper, and he’s one of the top players in 8-man football in Louisiana as a wide receiver or defensive back,” said Brecheen.
Smith doesn’t currently hold any offers. Once he does get to college, he wants to major in sports business and management.
Smith spoke very highly of his coach and what it means to play for him.
“Playing for Coach Hammons is amazing. I couldn’t ask for a better coach. He isn’t just a smart coach, but he is a coach who cares for his players more than just football. He cares about your life and wants to be there for you,” said Smith.
Smith’s father walked on at Louisiana Tech and played basketball. Athletics clearly run in his family.
