Recruiting Spotlight: Sheldon Holmes

Sheldon Holmes, Ferriday High School, Ferriday, LA

Defensive standout Sheldon Holmes of Ferriday High School is a player beginning to gain attention as a developing prospect in the Class of 2027. Holmes stands 6’1” and weighs 215 pounds, currently playing along the defensive line for the Ferriday Trojans.

Holmes has already put together a productive season defensively. He recorded 54 total tackles, 4.5 sacks, three fumble recoveries, and one forced fumble, showing his ability to create disruption and play with a relentless motor. His versatility allows him to line up at defensive tackle or defensive end.  Off the field, Holmes is also focused on academics and currently carries a 3.7 GPA in the classroom.

“ I’m truly blessed to be a Ferriday Trojan, and it’s an honor and thanks to Coach Walter Johnson, Coach Davante Scott, Coach Jarrell Hayes, and Coach Kendarius Jones for pushing me to be a better player in every practice, weight room, and on the field.” Holmes credits much of his development to the coaching staff at Ferriday, who continue to push him to improve every day in practice, the weight room, and on the field.

According to Lee Brecheen, Holmes is a player to keep an eye on as he continues to develop.

“He’s a sleeper for the 2027 class in recruiting,” Brecheen said. “He has a high motor and is committed to the game with the ability to be 6-1, 215 pounds as a middle linebacker once he fills out in college. He’s got good feet and plays hard.”

Holmes does not currently have any college offers; however, he continues to work toward that goal. He has already gained exposure by attending a camp at Texas Christian University, where he had the opportunity to compete and develop his skills at the college level. Holmes says he would love to play for two programs: Louisiana State University and the University of Louisiana at Lafayette.

Athletics also run in the family. Holmes’ father previously played football at Northwestern High School in Flint, Michigan, giving Holmes a strong football background and motivation to continue building his own path in the game.

With his size, toughness, and willingness to compete, Holmes is continuing to grow as a defensive prospect and could become a name that college programs watch closely as he progresses through his career at Ferriday.
