Recruiting Spotlight: Omari Butler, A.J. Ellender High School, Houma, Louisiana

Defensive Lineman Omari Butler of A.J. Ellender High School is an imposing prospect in Louisiana’s Class of 2027. Standing at 6’0’’ and weighing 300 pounds, Butler is a versatile lineman who especially excels when playing nose tackle.

Butler put together an elite junior season, recording 25 tackles, eight tackles for loss, and three sacks. Butler  also played basketball his first three years before deciding to focus on football for his senior year.

According to Lee Brecheen, Butler is a slept-on nose tackle who can make an impact at the next level.

“He’s a sleeper as a nose tackle with good feet for a big guy, and he moves well for his size at 300 pounds,” said Brecheen.

In the classroom, Butler maintains a 3.0 GPA, showing a strong commitment to his academics as well. Once he gets to college, Butler wants to major in mechanical engineering.

Butler spoke about how he tackles the everyday grind of playing high school football and trying to get recruited.

“My mantra is ‘Don’t Give Up.’ I tackle every day by trying my hardest and doing the best I can possibly do,” said Butler.

Butler does not have any college offers yet, but he will be attending an upcoming Nicholls Lineman Camp

Athletics run in Butler’s family. His father also played football at A.J. Ellender, and his mother was a majorette for Booker T. Washington
