Recruiting Spotlight: Charles Turner Jr., Thomas Jefferson Academy, Gretna, Louisiana

Star wide receiver and defensive back Charles Turner Jr. of Thomas Jefferson Academy is one of the most slept on prospects in Louisiana’s Class of 2027. Standing at 6’0” and weighing 160 pounds, Turner’s height and speed are exactly what coaches are looking for at the next level.

Turner put together an elite junior season, recording 800 total yards and 12 total touchdowns on offense. As a defensive back, Turner had four interceptions and two forced fumbles. He also received second-team all-district honors for his play on the field. Turner also shined on the basketball court, where he averaged 21.6 ppg, was the team offensive MVP, and  received first-team all-district honors.

According to Lee Brecheen, Turner is a prospect who deserves more attention from college scouts.

‍

“He’s a sleeper recruit with a lot of upside, and he can give you a little bit of everything,” said Brecheen.

In the classroom, Turner maintains a 4.4 weighted GPA and scored a 27 superscore on the ACT. He is also a member of the National Honors Society. Once he gets to college, Turner plans on majoring in kinesiology and pre med. 

Turner spoke on what playing for Thomas Jefferson means to him.

“Playing for Thomas Jefferson and my coaches has been a great learning process. All of our coaches bring a mindset that is structured not to only prepare our student athletes for their sports but their lives after school as well,” said Turner.

Turner does not hold any offers currently, but he has been in contact with the University of Louisiana at Lafayette. 

‍

Several members of Turner’s family were athletes. His father played basketball, football, tennis, and baseball in high school. His mother ran track in high school. His brother played football, basketball, and is a state champion and school record holder for track and field. Finally, Turner’s cousin is Danny Granger, who played in the NBA for 10 years with the Indiana Pacers, Los Angeles Clippers, and Miami Heat.
