Coach Dotson will play a bunch of players competing to win jobs in 2025 at basically almost every spot on the team. Coach Doug Dotson is a former head coach of Central High School, and on his staff at that time was current Central Head Coach David Simoneaux.Coach Dotson was also the head coach of Comeaux High School prior to joining the Acadiana High School football staff in 2021 to 2024 as the Rams' Quarterback coach and Special Teams coach. The Rams are the best in Louisiana, running the Veer offense for 40 years now, which is a difficult offense to stop for any Defense. Louisiana, 16 players signed college scholarships from the Acadiana 2024 football team.
The offense will build around new starting QB TY Lamartina, 6-0, 200, who has a strong arm with good feet in the pocket, 4.7 speed or better going into the 2025 season. Key players Graduated: OL Cooper Hughes(McNeese State), DT Courtlyn Houston(Lamar), Kicker Jace Vasquez(Millsaps Football & Baseball), CB Makayden Ryan, CB/WR Dane Dixon(College Baseball), LB Bryce Richard, FS Jack Sonnier, FS Cameron Brazzle, WR/TE Luke Leger, RB/WR Damarcus Bryant, MLB Hayden Biessenberger, CB Derrick Tillman, FB/TE Carter Schnake, RB Eric Jones Jr, CB Elijah Matthews, CB Carter Hooks, CB Landyn Glyenn, OL Jake Leger, OL Kamarii Smith, WR Aaron Bellard, DL Lucas Puckett, OL Blake Rogers, Safety Jack Cunningham.
Team Outlook: Good Spring/Summer off-season. We will be young on Defense, only returning three starters, and we lost 4 of our starting 5 Offensive linemen from the 2024 season. We hope that many young players who don't have experience yet can step up for us, and we can have a good year said Head Coach Dennis Skeet Owens.”
Tidbits: Head Coach Dennis Skeet Owens is a graduate and former football player at McNeese State University, a 1996 graduate. Coach Owens graduated from C.E. King High School in Houston, Texas, in 1991. Coach Owens was a WR/DB in High School and a WR in college. After talking to the coach, they expect about 100 players in the program to come to Fall practice. The program has 48 Sophomores and 30 Juniors in 2025. A lot of young talent, but many without starting experience. The Buccaneers will have a new Defense in 2025, switching to more of a 3-4 Defense.
The offense will return for the 3rd season a bigger and stronger starter in Quarterback Jelandon Gray, 5-11, 175, who has a really good arm and should have his best season yet, even though they will have a young Offensive Line. The run game will be led by starter Jordin Griffin, 5-9 180, with 4.45 speed in the forty, also a star Baseball player. Hopefully, he will stick with football and Baseball and be a great player again in football for the 2025 season. There’s also returning WR/RB Landon Kirklin 5-10 185, a 3-year starter, who can play either RB or WR and will help the team in both spots. Strong kid with speed. The WR room has a chance to be a strength in 2025 returning Myles Ledoux 5-10 175 for his 3rd year as a starter, new starter WR Sawyer Kuypers 6-1 200 had a good Spring, TE/WR Bryce Victorian 6-3 190, and WR Henry Hoffpauir 5-9 160 all will compete for reps. There is also TE/FB Truett Forsyth 6-2 205 coming back healthy now from an injury in 2025, who will help the team as a starter in 2025. The Offensive Line after Spring still has open spots to win between the Summer and Fall early practices. There are only two clear-cut starters right now in Kasey Reid, 6-0, 270, a new starter, and returning starter Travis Miller, 6-2, 230, a senior. Starting Defensive Lineman Kyle Wilkinson, 6-3, 240, might have to start or play until depth is established after a few games in 2025.
The Defense also still has a bunch of spots open after Spring practice, but several players have emerged. The Defense will be built around returning starters LB Eli Simon 5-10, 185, DE Conner Vallarie 6-3, 215, CB/Safety Tristan Bilbo 6-2, 170, and DE/DT Kyle Wilkinson, who got a ton of experience in 2024. Players who more and likely will start or play from Spring are LB Bo Armstrong 5-10 185 had a good Spring, LB Myles Pitre 5-11 175 also looked good Spring, Safety Dedrick Tillman 5-10 155 good Spring, LB Rayson Bethea 5-11 175 new starter, DE Jordan Marks 6-1 200 new player with a lot of upside, CB Trey Foney 5-8 150 new starter, and LB Jayden Joubert 6-0 185 will get reps on Defense. Look for several more young players to emerge as Fall practice starts for the program.
Special Teams has always been a strong spot for the program, and as a chance again to be strong with two new players competing for both Punter and Kicker in Aiden Sanford, 6-1, 180 SR, and Layton Pruitt, 5-11, 180, who has a 55-yard leg for Field Goals. Both kids will help the team in Special Teams for the 2025 season as starters.

There aren’t many coaches in Louisiana with the energy and care about winning as much as Gavin Peters. Coach Peters will do all he can to make this program successful. I was able to visit coach and some of his players after the 2024 season and came away really impressed with the attitude of the players like 3 time All DIstrict WR/P/DB/Athlete Chantz Babineaux 6-0 195 pounds will do down as one of the top Athlete’s to ever come out of the school since RB Kevin Faulk, RB Derrick Beavers and Kicker Wade Richey all went to college at LSU. Team Outlook: Started off-season workouts in early May. Have some new ideas for the program for the Summer/Fall. We will not do anything crazy to learn for the kids, but simplify it. We should have most of our new staff members by June. We will not have a Spring game or Spring, but will use those days for Fall. The strength of the team to start out with will be our Defensive front. I also appreciate the coaches that stayed to keep the kids together and working out while I was finishing at another school said Head Coach Derek Landry.”
I love this hire. I was able to sit down and interview coach Landry in May in person at the school and meet a few of the players we interviewed also for the upcoming season on our Podcast. I was really impressed with the players and coaching staff, the work they were putting in, and the direction of the program. Coach Landry is from Ville Platte, LA, and has coached at Lafayette Christian, where he was the 1st coach ever hired there, 8 years at Westgate High School, and the Offensive Coordinator during the 2021 State Title team at Westgate HS, and recently in 2024 at Comeaux High School. Also coached in the beginning in the Arena League before even coaching high school football. This guy has a big-time Offensive mind, and I think he will do wonders at the school, and this program will become a team not many will want to schedule in the near future.
There’s talent coming back for New Iberia High School. Some of the key players to watch will be sleeper recruit QB Peyton Landry, 6-2 190 SR, started last three games in 2024, has a live arm, and is athletic as a runner. There’s a new starting RB who is underrated, played some in 2024. There’s returning starting LB Richard Taylor 5-10 205, tough and smart kid with 42 tackles & 1 interception, and one sack in 2024. A leader coming back on the Offensive Line will be OC/OG Kordell Charles, 6-0 210 with 4.8 speed in the forty, a 3-year starter, and a super smart kid to help two new starters become good players in 2025 on the Offensive Line. LB Connor Stewart 6-1 205 SR has great speed 4.7 in the forty and high motor for the Defense as a leader in 2025.

The new QB for the program will be SR Gavin Breaux, 6-0 210, who has some power and enough speed to lead this young offense. There’s also a talented QB in Brock Blessing competing with Breaux for the starting job in 2025. Tidbits: The 2027 Class of players coming back for Southside High School will be one of the most talented Classes you will see in Class 5A football in Louisiana. If these kids stay together for the next 2 years, great things will happen after talking to Coach Jess Curtis. I met a few of these players with the coach last Summer in 2024, and I was very impressed with the players this program has coming up for future years. Southside High School is one of the top Academic High Schools in Louisiana now. They have state-of-the-art facilities and now have a beautiful stadium with a jumbo screen on the field, with a fieldhouse also being built in the near future, which will be one of the best in the state when completed.
The offense will have the ability to run or throw at any given time every week. QB Parker Diez 5-10 160 returns as a 2nd year starter, and he can throw and run as a QB, perfect for the offense. The Defense has a chance again to be really good. They return a lot of experience and added some new starters with a high ceiling for the 2025 season. Tidbits: The 2025 season, hopefully, will be the year the program can turn the corner. The Class 5A District Sulphur High School plays in has been an adjustment for the program over the last few years. The good news is that after talking to Coach Gueringer, 135 to 150 players are expected out for the Fall. Anytime you have over 100 players in your program, you have a chance to compete in Class 5A ball. This could be the year it happens, competing for the District or getting back to the playoffs. The team had 138 players out for Spring Practice. Head Coach Cody Gueringer did a great job at Welsh High School in his 4 years as head coach.
