2024 Record:12-2

2024 Playoffs: State Champions

2023 Record:10-3. Semifinals lost to St. Thomas More HS

Key players Graduated: QB Mason Wilson(Merchant Marine Academy), WR Jacob Washington(Michigan), Co-Valedictorian of the school WR Gavin Richard,2024 District Offensive Player of the year RB Jasper Parker(Michigan), WR Ian Smith, WR Dennis Seal, SS Trystan Evans, OG/OC Adam LaMark, OT Carter Newsham, OL D’Artanian Miller Jr, DL Caden Valentine, DT Gibson Lumene, OL Bryson Bustamante, WR Stephen Houin, RB Darrell Hains, DE Sheldon Green, RB Caleb Williams, Punter/Kicker Henry Cardenas.

Team Outlook: The  Winning tradition is back. Shaw football is back. We should have one of the best defenses in the State in 2025 said Head Coach Hank Tierney.”

Tidbits: Archbishop Shaw High School won its 2nd State Championship in football in school history in 2024. The 1st Football State Title for Shaw High School was in 1987, nearly 40 years ago, with the same Head Football Coach, Hank Tierney.  What's amazing about the 2024 team is that they started the season off with a 1-2 record and did not flinch, and got better and won 11 in a row after that. The Archbishop Shaw  Boys  Basketball team played in the State Title game and finished runner-up in 2025. The star Point Guard from the Shaw Basketball team will be the new starting Quarterback for the Shaw Football team in 2025, Allen Shaw III. I like Archbishop Shaw's chances of getting back and having a chance to go back-to-back in football again in 2025 because of such a strong Defense and a young but talented Offense.

The Offense will have a few new faces starting for the first time in 2025. The new starting QB will be Allen Shaw III, 5- 160, a converted CB, who started in 2024 All District as a Defensive Back for the team. Shaw is a very Athletic player who will do a great job running the Offense and will get better over time in 2025. The run game will return a new starter who has experience from the 2024 season in Deandree Franklin, 5-8, 170 SR, who brings some power and speed with experience. RB Calvin Ellsworth 5-6 160, and others will get reps in the run game. The Wide Receiver position will still be talented and one of the deepest positions on the team with new starters WR Austin Amadeo 5-10 165 SR, WR Nasir Parker 6-3 175, WR Balyn Jackson 6-4 180, and WR Tyre Lowe 6-1 170, all very talented kids. WR Javiyon Tarplin 5-9 150, WR Peyton Matherne 5-9 150, and Cobey Jones, also an RB, will all compete for playing time on Offense. The Offensive Line will be a mix of returning starters and new starters led by OL Craig Bourgeois, 5-11, 260, 2nd year starter, OL Kaiden Johnso,n 6-3, 27,5 2nd year starter, OL Kaden Clark 6-3, 265 new starter, and new starter OT Charles Duvernay 6-4, 265. A few new players are competing for the 5th spot to start in 2025. The starting Tight End will be new starter Elliot Love, 6-3 210, SR.

The Defense for Shaw has quite a few leaders and big-time hitters back to make up one of the best, if not the best, defenses coming back in all of Class 4A in 2025. The front seven will be DT Jonathan Williams 6-1 290 3 year starter, DT Michael Banks 6-0 265 2nd year starter, Safety/OLB Rontrae Carter 6-0 190 a 3  time All District player, leader, MVP of the District on Defense in 2024, DE/OLB Tahj Turner 6-0 195 big time leader 4.6 speed in the forty, MLB Ronnie Miller 6-2 200 new starter lettered in 2024 had a great Spring, DE Jaiden Webber 6-2 210 new starter, All District in 2024 OLB J’Quan Carter 6-0 195 2nd year starter big time hitter leading tackler from the 2024 season, OLB Ethan Lentz 6-0 190 2nd year starter leader, and LB Jules Archer 6-0 210 tough kid new starter lettered in 2024. The Secondary also will be very talented lead by Free Safety Jackson Williams 6-2 180 2nd year starter big time hitter, CB Christian Langford 5-10 165 2nd year starter started every game in 2024 big time hitter, Free Safety Dejuan Rivera 6-0 170 new starter, and CB Nelson Carter 5-9 150 another new starter had a good Spring also.

Special Teams for Kicker & Punter coach told me where the open spots are going into the Summer.

Team Outlook: The Owls will play a few 8th graders in 2025. They return a lot on Offense. Rebuilding the Defense. The Owls play in a tough District against teams like St. Charles Catholic, Archbishop Shaw, and Belle Chasse High Schools, and still find a way to compete with these bigger programs.

Team Outlook: We had to replace 17 starters from the year before, so we were very young in 2024. We were competitive but struggled to close out some games last year. Had a lot of guys play for the first time in 2024, which will help us moving forward. Return 14 starters in 2025 and return 4 of the 5 starting Offensive Lineman from the 2024 season said Head Coach Wayne Stein.

Tidbits: Head Coach Wayne Stein brought in a new Offensive Coordinator for the 2025 season in former Country Day High School Head Coach Chris Chetta. I think this is a good fit and thought Chetta did a good job at Country Day, has a passion for the game, and high energy, which will blend in well with the Comets program.  The Comets will also have 19 seniors this upcoming season. Last year was tough on the team with the loss of coach John Talley on November 23, 2024, who passed away during the season. Coach Talley was the team’s Strength Coach, Offensive Line Coach, and Special Teams Coach. I wanted to mention this because I know Coach Talley meant a lot to the program, and prayers to the family after talking to Coach for this upcoming season.

The Offense returns Quarterback Landree Leblanc, 6, 165 pounds. Coach Stein is excited about his development and thinks he will have a chance to be even better in year 2 as the leader and starter in 2025. The run game will center around All District in 2024, Skyler Edward, for the 3rd year in a row. Edwards at 5-11 190 is the Heart & Soul of the team's run game with over 1,000 yards in 2023,2024 had 840 yards, and looks to go over 1,000 yards again in 2025. Edwards will get help in the run game from starting CB Prystyn Cambre, a gifted 2-way starter, who will get some RB reps, and starting WR Evan Duffour, 5-8 170, a new starter at WR, will get some carries along with Chris Don McClain, a starting CB on Defense. The WR room will be completely new with Duffour, WR Walker Leblanc 5-10 155, a new starter, WR Claude Remdent 5-11 165, a new starter, and WR Jaden Gros 5-11 155, a new starter. The Offensive Line is one of the stronger positions coming back on the team with four starters back lead by All District in 2024 OL Jaques Vicknair 6-0 220 a 3 year starter, OG/OC Aidan Lowry 6-0 210 2nd year starter, OG Kolt Kreig 5-10 190 2nd year starter, and OT Charles Taylor 6-1 240 2nd year starter. The new starter on the OL will be Parker Millet, 6-1, 210 pounds. The Offense also will return two really good blockers at HB/TE/FB, Gabe Augle,r 5-1,1 180, a 2nd year starter, and Maddox Mader, 5-10 185, a new starter.

The Defense will be Linebacker lead to start with leading tackler in 2024 All District  Brooks Monica 5-11 190, back with over 100 tackles in 2024, is the Heart & Soul of the Defense, along with leader Creed Marix 5-11 178, a 2nd year starter, and new starter LB Jireh Hall 6-1 200. The rest of the Defense you have CB Prystyn Cambre 5-11 160 2nd year starter with legit 4.5 speed in the forty, FS Dax Pregeant 5-11 175 coach says QB of the Defense 3 year starter SR, DT Byron Bailey 5-11 250 2nd year starter, DE Tyler Bovia 6-0 210 2nd year starter, CB Chris Don McClain 5-9 170 converted from RB, DT Ian Frank 5-10 235 new starter, DE Kaden Asevedo 5-11 190 new starter, Safety James Tyson 6-0 185 new starter, Safety Bryce Dupard 6-1 190 new starter, and two players competing at the DB Star position are Aaron Hille 5-8 170, and DB Briggs Anderson 5-8 150. Another key player will rotate in at both DE/DT, Cole Hebert, 6-2, 210

Special Teams returns a 4-year starter in 2025 at both Kicker & Punter, Tyler Milioto, 5-7, 140 pounds, who does a great job for the team.

Team Outlook: Our kids believe and work hard as a team. These kids also do extra work outside of the staff, which helps a lot and which is great for our program,, said Head Coach J.J.. Smith.”

Tidbits: The Lions, for the 2nd year in a row, will not play for District Honors. In 2026, Willow Lions will be able to play for the District. Coach Smith only graduated 5 seniors from the 2024 class and returns 12 seniors, which is a big senior class for the program.

The Lions return a lot of experience and firepower on Offense but will have a new starting QB in Kaiden Thomas, 6-0, 200 pounds. Thomas has a really strong arm and could potentially have a huge 1st year.
