Head Coach:Larry Metiva(2nd year)

2024 Record:3-7

2024 Playoffs: No

2023 Record:3-8.1st Round lost to Evangel Christian HS

Key players graduated

Team Outlook: Rebuilding in 2024 and 2025. We have quality kids. The current Baton Rouge Mayor Sid Edwards and former longtime football coach meet with the East Baton Rouge Public School football coaches to try and help promote and understand our limited resources for sports programs. I like the fact that our Mayor cares, and we discussed Summer Camps for our teams and Summer programs to help us build our programs up for the near future. The Mayor understands the resources we have currently. We will compete this year and play hard this year as a team. We will have between 35 to 40 players out for the fall said Head Coach Larry Metiva.”

Tidbits: Head Coach Larry Metiva graduated from Southern Lab High School(Class of 1997). Coach was a part of the Southern Lab State Title team in 1997, played for former Head Coach of Southern Lab High School Gerald Kimble, also the former Southern U Head Football coach. Coach Larry Metiva also went to play for Grambling State in College. Coach Metiva's dad, Larry Metiva Sr., played for the legendary former Grambling State Hall of Fame coach Eddie Robinson from 1962 to 1966. Larry Metiva Sr. was the first black Center for the New Orleans Saints in the NFL and also played with the Houston Oilers. Coach told me he had great mentors along the way, Doug Williams, former Grambling State Head Coach, Washington Redskins Super Bowl MVP, long-time Running Back coach Burton Burns, and the late coach Eddie Robinson.

Broadmoor Buccaneers

Head Coach:Yasim Sarah(4th year)

2024 Record:2-6

2024 Playoffs: No

2023 Record:1-9

Key players graduated: WR Waheed Morehouse, CB/WR Jaden Banguel, QB/WR Kenneth Hawkins, K/P Denis Flores, WR/FS Derrick Goldman.

Team Outlook: We had to play 2 games in 2024 without half the team. We feel like we made some strides in 2024. We made some changes in Spring with discipline and commitment to the program. We now have the players who are committed moving forward for our program. From academics to work ethic and self-discipline. Our record did not show it, but in 2024, we won 2 District games for the 1st time in 10 years for the program. Best record in 10 years. We also went from giving up 440 points in 2023 to just 196 in 2024 on Defense. Our Offense also doubled their scoring output despite playing two fewer games in 2024 said Head Coach Yasim Sarah.”

Tidbits: I was able to see the Broadmoor team play in person in 2024, and I will tell you I was impressed with the effort as a team and the improvement I also saw in talent and numbers for the 1st time in several years. I think coach Sarah is closer to getting to where they want the program, and again, I don't think the record shows the improvements that go along with building a program from scratch, said LFM Lee Brecheen.

Brusly Panthers

Head Coach:Hoff Schooler(9th year)

2024 Record:9-3

2024 Playoffs:1st Round won South Beauegard HS & 2nd Round lost to Franklin Parish HS

2023 Record:3-7. 1st Round playoffs lost to Wossman HS

Key players Graduated: OLB Alvin Watts, DE Steven Wesley(College Basketball), DE Phillip Mason Jr. R(LSU Student), OL Thomas Dupree, OC Z’KHI Provo, LB Samuel Johnson, WR/DB Ty’rin Stewart

Team Outlook: Offense, we return most of our skill players. Defense, we lost most of the Defensive Line from 2024. We will have some spots to fill in Spring/Summer, but we feel good about the players coming back in the program said Head Coach Hoff Schooler.

The program at Brusly HS will have some 4th-year starters back to lead this young team in RB Patrick Gales, who is the leading candidate to become the team’s starting QB in 2025. Gales is one of the fastest players in all of Louisiana and in the US in Track & Field. Gales is 5-10 185 pounds with legit 4.39 forty speed in the forty and if someone can step up in Spring or Summer at QB he can go back to his natural position RB.Also back as 4 year starters CB/Safety Cyren Oxley 5-9 180, RB/WR Cordell Oxley 5-9 170, LB Brayden Ray 5-9 195 lead team in tackles in 2024, and OC/OT Mason Dupree leader 6-3 260 of the Offensive Line. More key players to look for in 2025 are OLB/DE Evan Poole 6-2 190 2nd year starter Athletic, WR All District Darion Bennett 5-9 175 2nd year starter, Safety Reggie Riley 5-11 190 2nd year starter, RB Robdrick Covington 5-9 195 2nd year starter, WR Marion Irving 6-0 170 2nd year starter, OL Keondric Brown 6-1 260 2nd year starter, TE/DE Nathan Hodges 6-1 205 new starter, DE/OLB Landon Pierson 6-0 198 new starter, 2nd year starter Jude LeJeune FS big time hitter  5-10 165 and special teams star MLB/SS Hunter Bickham 5-8 185 all over the field for the team.

Special Teams will be strong with the return of Kicker Alfredo Jurado, 5-7, 165 has a strong leg for both Kickoffs and Field Goals. The return game will be strong with Cordell Oxley back with over 1,000 return yards in 2024, and WR Darion Bennett is back also as a Punt Returner and Kickoff Returner. Brayden Ray will handle the Long Snapper spot.

Istrouma Indians

Head Coach:Brian Glover(1st year)

2024 Record:9-4

2024 Playoffs: Won 2 playoff games

2023 Record:

Key Players Graduated: CB/KR/PR Kyree Paul(Southeastern), MLB/DE Antonio Ransom, WR Trikee Lair, DE Kameran Johnson, OT/OC/DT Jeremiah Thomas, DT Darryon Simmons, OT/DT James McGuffery, LB Jalen Banks

Team Outlook: I am excited to be the head coach of Istrouma High School. I think because of the success of coach Sid Edwards having the program win in 2024, it will carry over and help us in 2025. The kids have tasted success, and I want to build off that foundation here and now said Head Coach Brian Glover.”

Tidbits: Head Coach Brian Glover recently did a great job with East Jefferson High School as the Head Coach, and I think he will do a great job here at Istrouma High School. Last year’s head Coach at Istrouma High School, Sid Edwards, did something not many coaches havedonene win 2 playoff games in 2024 been a long time since that has happened for the storied program. After the 2024 season ended, Sid Edwards left coaching and Istrouma High School to run for the Mayor of Baton Rouge and is now the current Mayor of Baton Rouge. The Spring game was against Higgins High School out of New Orleans. Coach Glover told me they had 40 players out for Spring and expect close to 55 total in the Fall.

The program lost a big senior class and will be a young team in 2025. Here are some players to keep a eye on this year CB/WR Justin Williams 5-10 190, CB/WR David Johnson 5-11 175, RB Carmello Daigre 5-11 215 SR, OL/DL Jordan Otis 6-3 265 SR, OC/OT Bennie Gillam 6-4 320 SR, QB Frank Alexander 6-1 200, LB Ryland Cotton 5-11 210, LB Brayden Jean 5-10 180, QB Elijah Parker 5-10 215, OL D’Anthony Juge 6-0 330, Safety James McCray 5-10 160, DL/OL Arthur Eakles 6-4 370, CB/WR Trey Davis 5-8 160 4.5 speed in the forty, and RB Marcus Williams 5-10 175.

McKinley Panthers

Head Coach:Ron Allen(4th year)

2024 Record:4-6

2024 Playoffs:1st Round lost to Lake Charles Prep HS

2023 Record:7-4.1st Round playoffs lost to St. Augustine HS

Key players Graduated: OT Laquise Dunbar, WR Jamond Jacobs, LB Armond Jones, LB Daniel Franklin, LB Malachi Stevenson

Team Outlook: We did not lose as many players as we did the year before 2023, where we graduated just about every starter 2025, we have a few players back with experience. The Defense will be ahead of the Offense in 2025. We ran mostly ROP Offense the last 2 years, but in 2025, we will be more of a traditional Run/Pass Offense with more running plays than the last 2 years. We still will have spread looks in certain situations. We will also have a new Offensive Coordinator to lead the Offense said Head Coach Ron Allen.

The Offense returns starting QB Ja’Darrius Moody, who will go into 2025 as a 2nd year starter, but there will be competition with QB Mishon Jones, who has a cannon arm as a young QB. Jones can also play some WR, and Moody could play another position like WR if one is the QB and the other can play skill spots at the same time in a game. The Offense will have some really good young skill players back in WR Ali Wells, SR Joseph Jacobs 6-1 165 2nd year starter, WR/RB Montrell Bell 5-9 170 SR 2nd year starter, RB Chase Williams will be the starting RB 5-10 185 2nd year starter, and you have a few players competing for playing time. The Offensive Line will start with 2nd year starter Davyn Evans, 6-0 240, OC/OL Jacolby Moody, 5-11 230, new starter, OL Caleb Darensbourg, 5-10 230, and OL Treaedon Dunn, 6-2 250.

The Defense will return some really good leaders with experence Safety Braylen Thomas SR 3 year starter 6-0 175, DE Tyler James 6-0 220 2nd year starter, OLB/DE Zacario Parker 6-1 220 2nd year starter, LB Rodric Thomas 5-10 185 SR 2nd year starter, DT/DE Malik Duroncelet 6-1 225, NG/DT Kameron Hines 6-1 230 new starter, Safety/CB Darnell Webb 6-2 175 2nd year starter, new starter Xavier Ausberry, Safety Flordy Washington 5-10 160 new starter, and Safety Keith Kornbacher rotating in 6-1 170 pounds.

Special Teams will have spots open at Punter/Kicker & LSP through Spring & Summer to find starters.

Plaquemine Green Devils

Head Coach:Donald Williams(3rd year)

2024 Record:12-2

2024 Playoffs: Semifinals lost to Cecillia HS

2023 Record:9-3

Key players Graduated: QB Nico Victorian(Northwestern State), RB Tyrese Mosby, SS/OLB Derion Bosley, OLB Jaylen Oubre, DE/LB Lionel Bowers III, CB Eric Riley, FS Avrion Lawson, RB/FS Chris Cole, OG/DT DeAndre Riley, OG Jacolby Young, DT Paul Smith, OT Lamarion Mitchell, RB Darrell Tate, K/LB Jacobi Collor.

Team Outlook: We have almost everybody back, with 16 starters returning in total. The message we have this year is to build our legacy. Let’s put last year’s success to bed and start a new one. We have some new pieces to the team, but let’s come together as a team. I am excited about this year and what we might accomplish in year three as a staff and team said Head Coach Donald Williams.”

Tidbits: The Green Devils graduated 16 players from the 2024 team and have a chance to be as good or better than the 2024 Semifinals team. I saw this team play in 2024 and was super impressed with the staff led by coach Williams. The job he is doing with developing and the speed of the team is very underrated to me statewide. When you include Lineman & Linebackers, they can play with anyone in the State, in my opinion. The team will miss QB Nico Victorian, 2,000 yards passing in 2024 with only 5 interceptions, but again, I think the Offense will not miss a beat in 2025.

The Offense will have a new Quarterback and return a very talented player in Brennan Miles, 6-3, 190, with a cannon arm, and he has a chance to be a very good player in time. The Offense also has several players who are incredible Athlete’s with experience back and speed John Walker IV 2nd Team All State in 2024 with 4.45 speed in the forty 6-1 180 pounds had over 1,000 yards Offense in 2024 with 16 touchdowns, WR Tyrinn Henderson 6-0 185 4.5 speed in the forty over 30 catches in 2024, RB/WR Dajon Beloney 5-10 160 a 4 year starter All State as a Freshman and can play some Wildcat QB, WR/OLB Raiance Williby 6-3 186 another fast player both sides of the football, WR/RB Jerome Royal 6-1 195, and RB Spencer Collins new player with 3 touchdowns and 150 yards rushing in the Spring game. The Offensive Line will also be talented with experience back lead by OT/OC Luke Lewis 6-2 305 3 year starter, OT/OG/OC Reggie Trusclair 6-2 300 3 year starter, OG/HB/TE Tyler Musco 5-10 275 2nd year starter, OC/OL Gage Rouyea 5-11 265 new starter, and OL Tyvin Edwards 6-2 295 a new starter.

The Defense is led by big-time leader 2024 Hon Mention All State  Roderick Bingha,m 6-1 170 SR OLB/Safety had 89 tackles in 2024 with 11 tackles for loss with 5 sacks and 6 interceptions. Bingham also will get help from 2 way starter John Walker IV Defensive Back/WR, CB Rustin Grace 5-11 165 a shut down CB 2nd year starter,2 way starter Raiance Williby OLB with 4.59 speed in the forty, CB Daylan Jenkins 5-10 165 a 3 year starter, Safety Cameron Rogers 5-11 185 2nd year starter, OLB Cameron Richard 6-0 225 2nd year starter, DE Ryan Jenkins 5-11 300 a 2nd year starter big time player, OLB/DE Jairius Jones 6-3 205, Safety Travis Riley 5-10 170 a 3 year starter leader, and other young players getting reps for the first time in 2025.

Special Teams Kicker will be Rustin Grace, and the Punting job looks like it will be Dajon Beloney. The return game will be one of the best in the State, led by Kick Returner John Walker had 4 touchdowns on Kickoffs in 2024.

St. Michael Warriors

Head Coach:Zach Leger(5th year)

2024 Record:6-5

2024 Playoffs:1st Round lost to Archbishop Hannan HS.

2023 Record:8-3.Playoffs lost in the 2nd Round to St Thomas More HS in the Quarterfinals.

Key players Graduated: DB/Athlete Know Poirrier(Bellhaven), DB Hayden Evans(Bellhaven), OL Guy Woods(Bellhaven), Athlete Brock Hamilton(Centenary), LB/DE Blaine Rodrigue, LB Grayson Boudreaux, OC Luke Hillman, RB John Martinez,

Team Outlook: I am excited for the 2025 season. For the first time in the 40 years of the school’s history, we will be able to walk down as a team and staff to our new stadium. The school has had football for 39 years, and the 1st time with a stadium for the program, which is huge for the school. We should dress close to 90 players in 2025, which will be the most we’ve ever had in the program for fall said Head Coach Zach Leger.”

Tidbits: The program also has bigger classes to help this program move forward, keeping depth from year to year. The incoming So class has 35 players, the Junior class has 25 players, and the Freshman class should be over 30 players also. The School will play in the new Football Stadium on campus for the first time in the history of the school in 2025. This will also help Soccer, the Band, and other sports programs have a field on campus to practice at the school and not off-site.

The Offense will have a new QB and a committee of Running Backs taking over from 4-year starter John Martinez leader of the program on Offense. The QB competition will be among talented Caden Levingston, 5-10 155, a CB in 2024, Eli Miller, and Quinn Windham, who lettered at QB in 2024. Look for all three of these kids to be a huge part of the program in 2025 at other positions if not QB as a starter. The run game will feature new starter Deontae Camel, who ran for over 1,000 yards at McKinley HS, and Ethan Sutton, a starting CB for the team in 2024 as a Freshman. Both of these kids have electric stuff for this Offense. Look for the program to find a 3rd and 4th back during the Spring/Summer. The WR spot will have several players that also will play some Defensive Back for the team with players like 2024 Hon Mention All State SR/All District Johnny McCarty 6-1 195 has the size and speed 4.6 to make things happen in 2024, 764 yards with 50 catches and 8 touchdowns, WR/CB Damian Willett 5-9 155 SR, WR/SS Seth Darsam 6-1 173, WR/DB Carlos Levingston Jr 6-0 160 big time player played in 2024 as a Freshman, WR Hayden Istre 6-3 182, WR/DB Alex Mayeux and WR Joseph Bourgeois 6- 1 169. The Offensive Line you have 2024 2nd team All District OT Douglas Kelly 6-6 280, OL/DL Graham Kleinpeter 6-0 195, OL Luke Rougeau 6-1 185, OL/DT David Allen 6-1 280, Center Seth Kimball 5-10 205, and others competing over the Summer to get reps.

The Defense front will have several players getting a chance to be in the rotation starting with 2024 All District SR Jackson Samson 6-2 215 a DE/TE, DT/DE Noah Bourgeois 6-2 220, MLB Payton Dawson 6-0 185 47 tackles in 2024, LB Brady Patt 5-11 165,2 way starter DT David Allen, DE Gordy White 6-3 210, DT Leury Beaz 6-0 265, DE Champ Williams 6-4 225 also a TE/HB, DE Bennett Yates 5-10 190, and several other young players competing to get reps in 2025. Defensive Back will be one of the stronger positions on the team. One of the best cover Defensive Backs on the team will be a 2-way starter, both RB & Strong Safety, 2024 All District Ethan Ellis Sutton 5-7 165 had a Pick 6 interception return for a Touchdown against Broadmoor, S I saw in person in 2024. Free Safety will be Seth Morrison Darsam 6-1 175, talented CB returning starter All District in 2024, Carlos Levingston Jr 6-2 170, and DB Codey Doming will have a chance to start, also a WR for the team.

Special Teams will be very strong for the program in 2025, led by a DI Kicker, I think, in returning starter Benjamin Jones, a SR 6-1 175, and Punter, the leading candidate is Dylan Raffray, a new starter with a good leg. Several kids return with experience returning Kickoffs & Punt Returns like Hayden Istre, Carlos Levingston Jr, and Alex Mayeux. Long Snapper should be Bennett Yates in 2025

Tara Trojans

Head Coach:Lawrence Brown(1st year)

2024 Record:2-8

2024 Playoffs: No

2023 Record:1-9

Key players Graduated: OT/DT Lamonte McKeever, QB/DB Adrian Coleman, RB/DB Demarion Bell, Lenmorrow Lawrence, OL/DL Xavian Smith.

Team Outlook: We only have 15 players coming back at the moment in May of 2025. We only have 2 players coming back with experience. When I was Head Coach of Pointe Coupee Central HS a few years ago, we were in the same situation, building everything from the bottom up, teaching weight lifting, training, getting kids to go to college camps(We will go to at least 8 College Camps this Summer as a team).  Also, getting kids to attend off-season workouts, we expect in the Fall to be at 35 to 40 players from 15 players right now a team said Head Coach Lawrence Brown.”

Tidbits: Coach Lawrence Brown knows what he’s doing, like he said above, he has built programs from the ground up before at Pointe Coupee Central HS, where one year he was voted coach of the year in his District after starting that program with less than 15 players. Coach Brown is a 1985 Graduate of St. Augustine HS in New Orleans, and was on the staff at St. Augustine HS when Leonard Fournette was there and coached Running Backs at ST. Aug HS.Coach Brown did not coach football in 2023 or 2024 but was at Tara as the Head Track coach.

The school has over 800 kids, and the coach will do everything in his power to convince a few players to come out for football by June/July of this year.

The leader and captain of the team, a 4-year starter, Eldon Spears, 5-8, 190 pounds, starting on both sides of the football as a RB & Linebacker. More players to keep a eye on mostly all new to starting will be OLB/SS Chance Winfield 5-9 165, QB Tyrick Patin 5-6 160, QB/Athlete Mordakye Singelton 5-9 160, WR/CB Elijah Thibodeaux 5-10 170, DT/OL Aden Colbert 6-0 220, OL/DL Glen Wisham 5-10 185, and DT/OL Jaime Breaux Jr 6-0 210.

West Feliciana Saints

Head Coach:Terry Minor(1st year)

2024 Record:7-5

2024 Playoffs:1st Round beat Carroll HS & 2nd Round lost to Franklinton HS

2023 Record:9-3.2nd Round lost to Opleousas HS

Key players who graduated: DT/DE Chris Turner, Athlete Bruin Gilfoil, OL Trae McDavid, QB Thomas Temple, LB Mason Hunter.

Team Outlook: West Feliciana High School, geographically pe people in this town are different. And we will use that as our advantage said new Head Coach Terry Minor.”

Tidbits: The Saints return most of their starters from a year ago on both sides of the football. New Head Coach Terry Minor was the Offensive Coordinator in 2024 at Catholic High School of Baton Rouge, also coached Running Backs and Tight Ends. Terry Minor is a 2014 Graduate of Zachary High School, where he played football back in the day. Coach told me half of his family is from the West Feliciana area, so it will be a smooth adjustment to the new job. Tidbit: The West Feliciana High School Football team had a 3.3 overall GPA as a team in the last semester of school, going into the Summer. I was able to visit during Spring practice and watched the team workout, scouted, and was impressed with the talent they have on both sides of the ball. Great mix of size and speed to be a State Title contender in 2025.

There might be a new head coach, but again, the team returns a lot of experience from the 2024 season. The Offense will have the option of playing 3 different QB’s possible thru out the Summer before naming a starter among three great players,1st the best skill player on the team Athlete/QB/WR/Safety Dedrick Davis 5-10 175 with legit 4.5 speed in the forty, a 3 year starter, QB Brooks Hebert 6-1 165 i saw in Spring showed a strong arm and competes, and Ryan Funderburk who is recovering from a knee injury in 2024. Davis will start at WR/Safety if he is not named the starter, and possibly Funderburk, and Hebert will be long-term Quarterbacks for the program. The Offensive Line returns most of it’s starters from the 2024 season lead by 3 year starter Nolan Daniel 6-3 280, OG Laszlo Chauser 6-4 300, Center/DT Jamal Scott 6-1 240, OT Zane Aymond 6-1 225 and OT Neal Stout 6-0 250.2024 starter Nathan Daniel is still recovering from a injury and might miss the 2024 season at 6-4 280 pounds. It will be one of the better Offensive Lines in the Baton Rouge metro area in 2025. Running Back, you will see a rotation of 3 backs or more, starting with Ean Hills, 5-8, 180, RB Josh Dorsey, and RB Ty London, 5-9, 160 new player will rotate in. In the passing game, if not named the Q, B Dedrick Davis, 5-10 170, will be a star WR for the team in 2025 with his big-time speed and ability to make things happen. You also have at WR De’Corine King a CB 5-10 165, WR/CB Kobe Sullivan 5-10 170, WR Xavier Barron 5-7 160, TE Ezra Morrow 5-11 190, TE Braylen Cobb 5-9 185, WR Tonio Sullivan 6-6 175 newcomer and 3 year starter WR Tyler Jolla 5-9 165 will also be a go too player for big time plays in the passing game with 4.55 speed in the forty.

The Defense returns a very impressive Defensive Front 7 to start the season lead by OLB/DE Jaden Collins 6-0 225 pounds quick and all out 2nd year starter, LB/Safety Collin D’aquilla 6-0 185 a 2nd year starter, LB Manning Hawkins 5-11 195 185 2nd year starter, DT Addison Scott 6-0 235 new starter, DT Willis Jackson 6-1 240 2nd year starter, DE/LB Markel Glasper 5-7 190 new starter, LB Jayden Johnson 6-1 220, and talented DE Jayden Thomas 6-2 242 2nd year starter. The secondary has almost everyone back in 2025 with a lot of depth lead by Safety Dedrick Davis,2 way player De’Corine King,2 way starter Tyler Jolla CB, Jamari Mealey 5-10 160 2nd year starter, Safety William Noble 5-8 155, Safety Teshawn Monroe 5-8 165 2nd year starter, Safety Josh Dorsey, DB Charles Smith 6-0 160 will rotate in and CB Kobe Sullivan.

Special Teams Kicker & Punter will be Trey Rogers, 5-7, 220, a 2nd year starter with a good leg. Starting Long Snapper will be James Gates, 5-5, 165 pounds.
