Mansfield FB/DT Terrance Pegues

“I think we should improve going into my second year as Head Coach at Mansfield HS,” Mansfield head coach Darrell Barbay said.

The Wolverines will be young again but do return some experience to build on in 2023.

For the skill positions you have Senior FB/DT TJ Terrance Pegues (6-0, 250) is a four-year starter, a tough kid and a leader on this team. There are also returning starters senior RB Rykelyn Van Zandt (5-7, 190) and senior LB Jeremiah Eckles (5-10, 195), senior LB Jermichael Howard (6-1, 180) and TE Kentrayloan Spencer (6-1 205), CB Calvin Jackson, and ATH Terrell Pegues. The trenches will have returning starter senior OT/DT Demarquinn Ross (6-3, 305) and DT Jacoby Bussey (5-11, 245). The offense will be led by QB Jamorian Atkins, who can run a 4.6 forty and has a good arm.

The kicking battle is wide open and will be determined in the fall.

The Mansfield program has a great history and great facilities. I remember growing up hearing about graduates like former MLB All-Star Vida Blue (Class of 1967) who pitched in the MLB for 17 years. Blue was a 6x MLB All-Star, 3x World Series champion and won both the AL Cy Young and MVP in 1971. There’s also pitcher Jesse Hudson (New York Mets, also Class of 1967), DB Albert Lewis (16 years in the NFL), former NFL DB Fakhir Brown, TE Chris Hill (LSU), QB Melvin Hill (LSU), All-State WR Spencer Heard (Louisiana Tech, current head coach at Minden) and current Lincoln Prep head coach Glenn Hall also went to Mansfield HS and played in the NFL for Grambling and the Kansas City Chiefs.
