Monte Farmer Jr
By Lee Brecheen
Class 2026, Monte Farmer Jr, Washington Marion High School.
I was able to see in 2024 and in 2025 one of the most unique players I have seen in a while, a kid named Monte Farmer(Pop) Jr from Washington Marion High School, a Quarterback who goes 6-8 in height and weighs now 180 pounds. This kid is hidden in Lake Charles as a sleeper recruit. Monte plays Quarterback for his team because that’s where they need him, but I think he would make a great Wide Receiver in college with his height of 6-8. He would be a matchup problem for anyone. Because he also has a great skill set in Basketball, he has the ability to become 6-8, 215 pounds in another year if he concentrates on football in college. He could also be a QB in college or play college basketball. His family also has a big background in sports. His mom played Volleyball, Basketball, and Softball at Washington Marion High School. Dad is 6-10 in height, played Basketball in North Carolina in high school, Beddingfield HS, then went to Highland Community College in Kansas for 2 years, then went on to play for local McNeese State University. His cousin Grady Farmer played for Barton College, and Brian Richardson cousin, played for South Carolina in the SEC Basketball. His uncle Edward Farmer played at the University of Maryland and overseas in Australia, and his Uncles Christopher Cox and Kenneth Cox played Basketball overseas.
This is a kid with only 2 full years of starting in football on varsity. He was named District MVP his Sophomore year and Junior year in Basketball and led the State in blocks. Football, he was named Honorable mention All District in his 1st year to play on varsity.
He holds an offer in Basketball to LSU/Alexandria. He has talked to schools like Lee College and McNeese State for Basketball, but no offers from those schools yet. He plans on majoring in Kinesiology with a minor in Business Administration. He hopes to one day own a Therapy/Training facility for Athletes. Farmer is also a really good student with a GPA of 3.5 in the classroom.

Quotes below from Monte Farmer (Pop) Jr
“These last two years as a Quarterback, I’ve had to understand how to read coverages and blitzes better,, but not only that, I learned how to be a leader and take accountability for the wrongs within the team.
My Quarterback coach, Tyler Garard Pete, and Offensive Coordinator is Herman Pete,, both played a big role in my QB journey. My QB coach taught me a lot of simple keys to becoming a good QB. He also helped me fix my mechanics in my throwing, which really helped me improve. I have been with my Offensive Coordinator since I was a little kid playing football. He showed me different variations of the game and how to make valuable plays, and I made it happen. Both are very instrumental in how I play the game, especially when asking me to play WR on some downs. They trust my capabilities and skill level of playing how I play, and go out there to handle business.
The difference between football and basketball, to me, is really the thinking part. In football,, there are all the types of reads you must do and play too make, while in basketball, it’s off natural instincts. My IQ is high for both sports.
Distance to a college for me will not be a problem because I have a family that loves to travel. I have a daughter, too, so as long as I get to see her in the stands watching me play on the collegiate level means everything to me.
As a kid, I was always on the campus of Grambling State University, but I’ve always liked LSU and Oregon.”
