Recruiting Spotlight: Ryan Montegue Jr., Destrehan High School, Destrehan, Louisiana
DB Ryan Montegue Jr. of Destrehan High School is a tough defensive prospect in Louisiana’s Class of 2027 who can be used at any position in the secondary. Standing at 5'11'’ and weighing 189 pounds, Montegue has the physical tools to make an impact at the next level.
Montegue put together an elite junior season, recording 70 tackles, 10 tackles for loss, six pass breakups, and four blocked kicks. He also received first-team all-state honors for his outstanding play this past season.
According to Lee Breechen, Montegue is a sleeper prospect who has been making a name for himself, and he can make an impact at the DI level.
“He’s a sleeper DI prospect that started his high school career at St. Augustine High School in New Orleans. The last two years he made a name for himself in the river parishes as one of the top defensive backs in a tough Class 5A District,” said Brecheen.
In the classroom, Montegue maintains a 3.0 GPA, and once he gets to college, Montegue would like to major in communications. Montegue is interested in communications because of his uncle Ryan Clark.
Montegue spoke about the impact Coach Marcus Scott has had on him even after only playing for him for one season.
“He holds his players to a high standard and pushes us to be our best every day. I appreciate everything he’s done to help me develop as a player and prepare for the next level,” said Montegue.
Montegue is committed to Nicholls University, and he has attended a camp at Texas Christian University. He will also be attending other camps soon.
Both of Montegue’s parents were athletes. His mom was a trainer at Hahnville High School, and his dad was a running back for St. Augustine High School.
