Class 2026, Louisiana Native, Denim Hunt, Athlete, Thomas E. Randle High School in Texas

We usually talk about current Louisiana football players who play high school football in Louisiana. Today, we will talk about a kid from Louisiana who is now playing high school football in the State of Texas Denim Hunt. Hunt was a star player for Southern Lab High School in Baton Rouge, but now stars for Dr. Thomas Randle High School in Rosenberg, Texas, for his senior year of high school. Denim Hunt is not only a star Athlete/Wide Receiver 5-9 170 pounds but also one of the best Track Athletes in the Class of 2026. I had a chance to see this kid play his Junior year in 2024 at Southern Lab High School and was impressed with his 4.40 time in the forty. Hunt had 969 yards with 12 touchdowns at Southern Lab High School as a Wide Receiver. This is a kid who placed in the top 8 in the US at 4 Junior Olympics in Track. Placed 1st place in the 200 Hurdles. As a 7th grader on varsity in Track made it to regionals.8th grade year made it to State in the 400 meters and 4x200 which he got 2nd in both events. In his 9th grade and 10 grade years, he won State in Track in the 400 meters, 4x4,00, and 3rd in the 200 meters. He wasn’t able to run Track in 2024 because of an injury. His fastest times are 48.23 in the 400 meters and 21.13 in the 200 meters. He is not the only Athlete in the family; his Grandfather, John Felton Washington, ran Track at Thomas A. Levy in Rosedale, Louisiana, and his Grandmother, Laura Washington, coached Girls' Volleyball and Basketball at Capitol Middle in the 1990s in Baton Rouge. He has two cousins, Patrick and Roderick Batiste, who played Basketball for McKinley High School in Baton Rouge in the 1980s. His cousin Dylan Day is a former Southern Lab Football player I saw play, and he is now a starter for the U of Miami in Coral Gables as a Defensive Back.

I think Louisiana schools need to not forget about this kid, for Track and Football have great speed and could sign as a 2 Sport player for college, both Track and Football. Denim Hunt started playing Football and running Track at the age of 7 with the South Baton Rouge Jaguars.

Quotes from Denim Hunt

“My journey from Louisiana to Texas was unexpected. Honestly I didn’t know how to feel, what to expect or if I would even get the opportunity to play Football or run Track this year.I made a promise to myself that no matter what happened, I would continue to condition, making sure my body was in shape so that I would be prepared to hit football camps and run Summer Track. I knew that if I did not get the opportunity, it wasn’t going to be easy. The saying is Everything is Bigger in Texas and it’s true. So my mindset was, I'm a Louisiana boy, if given the chance, I would make every effort to make a play.

I started school at DR. Thomas E. Randle High School in Rosenberg, Texas, in September. When I arrived at the school, I was excited and nervous about he transition because it was unfamiliar. Going from a small school setting that I attended since 6th grade, Southern Lab, where I knew just about everyone at the school. They are pretty much family to me, and then transitioning to a school that has almost 3,000 students was kind of crazy for real. I pulled up to the school it was on a whole different level. It felt like I was at a college or high school musical type school. I walked in, and they embraced me and immediately made me feel like family.

At Southern Lab High School, I knew I was a playmaker. I was familiar with the teams we played against, so I knew how to prepare for the game. At Randle High School in Texas, everybody is a playmaker. I had no clue how I would fit in. If I were to get playing time, or if I were even needed. I’m not going to lie, I was impressed and anxious at the same time. It took me a minute to figure out the pace of the game, the signal calling, and the playbook. I love the game so much,  once I got on the field and lined up as a Wideout,  all that went away.

Randle fans are the best. They come out to support in large numbers.  It’s an amazing feeling to run out and see that section is full of students, and it’s lit. My very first game,  I saw the fans lined up on the fence, and my teammates lining up. I’m like,  what’s going on ?. The fans were waiting to high-five every player and tell them good job after the game. I was like, yeah, I can get used to this.

My coaches at Randle, Jayson Vig,nend Mark Washington, have been my position coaches since I have been at Randle. They treated me like family, and I have learned a lot from them, whether it be going to their classroom and watching family going over plays to make sure I know what I'm doing in the game.

I have a 3.4 GPA in the classroom currently. I also have 3 college offers. I am talking to Millsaps the most, and I have a visit there on November 15th.”
