2023 Louisiana Prep Football Preview: Ben Franklin High School (New Orleans)

Ben Franklin Falcons

By Lee Brecheen

Head Coach: Terry Wilson(3rd year)

2022 Record: 1-6

Class & District: No District Games

Ben Franklin High School is one of the best high schools in the state of Louisiana in terms of academics and that’s a strong sell to any parent in the new-orleans area to send their kids for a great education and play sports.

The Falcons are working hard to turn the program around. Currently, Ben Franklin’s record is 1-4. The program went 1-6 in 2022, and the year before that they were 0-4. I think the program will eventually turn in the right direction. They have good kids and a good coaching staff that is led by head coach Terry Wilson. The program still doesn’t play district games yet.

The offense you have QB Noah Tierney returning for his third year in the system. The rest of the offense includes RB Shawn Warren, RB Seth Sylve (5-7, 170), WR/DB Ryan Williams (5-11, 165), WR Thomas Gross III, who is a big-time leader returning starter, WR Aarion Owens, third-year starter OL David Labadie, third-year starter OL/OC Scott Gottsche (6-2, 255) and big-time player OL/DL Jalen Bailey (6-2, 255).

The defense will have some of the same starters and also third-year DB Noah Bercy, DB De’Von Trask (5-8 140, LB Abriel Stringfellow, DL Eli Sanders, Thomas Currie (6-0, 175, Sr.), Stark Conner (6-3, 275), DL Thinuga Adihetti, DL Emilio Sequerira, LB Zachary Kemp and LB Larry Smith.

On special teams, you have third-year starter kicker Jacob Russell, a talented kid with a strong soccer background and a strong leg.

The Falcons are playing a tough nine-game schedule in 2023. But in the long run, I think by next season the program will be close to where they need to be. Coach Wilson has done a great job getting players out in 2023 with close to 50 kids in the program.
