Catholic New Iberia Panthers

Head Coach: Matt Desormeaux(3rd year)

2024 Record:13-1

2024 Playoffs: State Champs over Dunham HS

2023 Record: 8-3. 2nd Round lost to Lake Charles Prep HS

Key players Graduated:2024 All State/District Offensive MVP QB Luke Landry(Louisiana Christian) Passed for 2,847 yards with 39 Touchdown passes and just 3interceptionsn. LB Bennett Woodring(LSU),2024 All State/District Defensive MVP LB/TE/FB J.D Hidalgo(College Baseball), CB/RB Tristan Lewis, WR/SS Chris Green,2024 All State OT Roan Judice,2024 All State WR/CB Jaiden Mitchell,2024 2nd team All State WR/Punter Joseph Leblanc, Kicker Bennett Boudreaux, WR Gavin Roy.

Team Outlook: We have a chance to be good again in 2025. We return most of our linemen up front, who are all back. We have young skill talent, but we will put young guys in big-time situations, and we shall see  how they will handle that in 2025 said Head Coach Matt Desormeaux.”

Tidbits: The 2025 Catholic of New Iberia Football senior class will go down as one of the best at the school. I thought they were one of the toughest, grittiest teams I saw play in 2025 in all classifications. The Panthers won State Titles in both Football and Baseball in 2025.1st Baseball State Title since 2001. All-State star Football player LB/FB J.D. Hidalgo was also a star for the Baseball program, hitting a 3-run homer in game 2 against University Lab High School, and in game three, pitched 6 scoreless innings with 7 strikeouts. All-State QB Luke Landry also had a great series for the Baseball program with 3 hits. Star RB Owen Morris from the Football team closed out game 3 in the semifinals over Dunham High School. I had a chance to interview coach Desormeaux at the school during Spring and meet all the starters, and came away super impressed with the talent that is coming back to contend for another state title in 2025.

I think the program graduated one of the best QBs in the history of the program in Luke Landry. His 2024 season was one of the best I’ve seen in quite some time in Class 2A, leading his team to a State Title in 2024. There will be a QB battle at the position in 2025 among 2024 All District SR Owen Morris, 5-9 155, a RB in 2024 with 4.5 speed, and Xander Labauve, a DE in 2024, 6-3 210 pounds, 10 Sacks with 60 tackles, a SR coming up. Both of these kids are special to the program, so whoever doesn’t start at QB will go back to full-time at their position in 2024. The run game also has some experience back in RB Tylan Sonn, 5-10 185 can also play some DE, and RB/LB Morris Michael Haik IV, 5-10 198, has also played some LB for the program. The WR spot has a chance to be good again with players like Khylon Edwards, 5-8 160, lettered in 2024, also a CB on Defense, and DI recruit Karon Eugene, 6-1 170, also an All State/All District DB in 2024 with 4.45 speed. The Offensive Line returns just about everyone and will start as the strength of the team. The Offensive Line you have 2024 All District OT Jack Poirier 6-2 240 SR, OG Avery Delcambre 6-1 280, OG Desmond Jones 5-11 250, and Center Illijah Butts 5-11 265 SR. There’s also late bloomer OT/TE Jacob Minvielle 6-8 265, and OL Luke Hewitt 6-1 250 in the mix to start or play a lot in 2025.

The Defense will have some new faces and some experience back, a mix overall in 2025. The leaders back with experience are 2024 All District DT Michael Bertrand III 6-0 250 SR, CB/Safety Layton Mitchell 6-0 175 big time player 4th year, DB Karon Eugene a 4 year starter one of the best in Louisiana, CB/WR Zavier Ledet 5-10 150 2nd year starter, MLB Izaac Andre 6-0 195 2nd year starter,  possibly 2024 All District DE Xander Labauve if not the QB, DE/LB Joseph Trappey 5-11 180 also can help on Offense FB/TE, OT/TE Jacob Minvielle as a DT, DT/NG new starter Holden Cormier, and 2 way starter Desmond Jones a OG/DT 5-10 255 SR.

Special Teams jobs are still open going into the Spring/Summer.Punter/Kicker is still open. Long Snapper, the new leading candidate to start, will be Ian Breaux, 6-0, 180 SR.

Team Outlook: Program on the up tick. Two years ago, the team went 0-10 and played a bunch of young kids who were Freshmen & Sophomores and finished 4-6 in 2024. Key players Graduated: Punter/TE/LB/DE Cohen Danos, RB/LB Luke Breaux,  OT/DT Dominik Duplantis, OL Cameron Fregeau, QB Logan Bardarson,

Team Outlook: Our team Motto is (Success is not an accident).Trying to get everyone to buy into the weight room to get stronger, faster, and bigger for the program. We will have a few young players in the program, but the good news is because of injuries in 2024, we had to play a lot of young kids, and it should pay off this year with those players now having varsity experience in games said Head Coach Jamar Celestine.

Tidbits: Head Coach Jamar Celestine is a graduate of Grambling State U (Class of 2011). Coach Celestine went to high school at Terrebonne High School in Houma(Class of 2003). Coach Celestine walked on to the Grambling State football program and made the team back in the day as a QB.Coach played Quarterback & Linebacker in High School.

Most players in the program will play at least two positions and start on both sides of the football in 2025. The Offense will have a quarterback going into Fall camp capable of starting in 2025: Henry Legendre, 5-10, 170, leader after Spring, and then there’s QB Drew Pennison, 5-11, 165, another really good Athlete.  Both QBs start at another skill spot if not the QB.

Team Outlook:  We don't have experience in a few spots in 2025.  We will also have a very young Offensive Line. Defensive Line will have some experience back.  I feel good about our tight ends, which we will use more of in 2025. The Offense will be a little different based on our personnel, and I see us running the ball a lot more in 2025 said Head Coach Terry Martin.”

The Offense will have 2 Quarterbacks for the Offense in 2025 with Blake Delcambre Jr, 5-8, 175, returning after getting experience at QB in 2024.  Blake will do a lot for the team in 2025 as QB/CB/RB/KR/PR.  You also have Wyatt Hazelwo,  od 5-8 160, who has a good command of the Offense, a high IQ as a football player, knows the Offense, and will also play some QB for the team this year. Coach thinks that these kids give the program a chance to win in 2025.

Here are more kids to keep a eye on in 2025 starting RB/LB Thomas Carter 2nd year starter 5-11 195 big time player for the program, OG/DT Christopher Jones 6-1 260 teams best lineman,  OG/OC John David Judice 5-10 190 2nd year starter also play some DE,  Safety/WR Quinton Taylor tough kid 5-4 128 SR, DE/OT Nyjil Nora 5-10 210 2nd year starter, DT/OL Jansin Conner 5-10 280,  DE/TE Cole Delahoussaye 6-1 195 big time blocker and Defensive player,  TE/DE Eli Landry 5-10 195 good Athlete,  RB Jamesin Kowalewski 5-8 155 new player rotating in at RB, DE Zachary Savoie 5-9 205, WR/SS Blaise Romero 5-7 160 2nd year starter tough kid Athlete, RB/CB Ridge Honore 5-9 155 tough kid 2nd year starter,  TE Hayden Hebert, Kadyn James CB/WR and OLB Sawyer Brettrager 5-11 180 will get reps.

West St. Mary Wolfpack

Head Coach:Kendall Mouton(2nd year)

2024 Record:5-5

2024 Playoffs:1st Round lost to Welsh HS

2023 Record:1-9

Key players Graduated:  WR/FS Tri’keilun Harris, Athlete Charles Robertson,  WR/SS/CB J’kaylon Carter,  RB/LB Jose Martinez, OL/DL Triston Trosclair, CB/FS Jordan Young(Louisiana Christian),  OG/DL Mylon Charles.

Team Outlook:  We need to get the mindset of the team as a whole together. Not everybody is there yet.  I think once everyone buys it, we have a chance to get where we want to go. We need all the players to have the same expectations as a team and goals as a team. Still trying to find the best 11 to put on the field going into the Summer said Head Coach Kendall Mouton.”

Tidbits: The Wolfpack had 12 players graduate from the 2024 team, which is a lot for this program. The team did not have a Spring game in 2025. In 202, the program lost a game because of a Hurricane.  Week 7 in 2024 against Centerville High School wasn’t able to get that game in.  Coach said he hopes the football team will have around 35 to 40 players in the fall. I think Coach Mouton has already made a huge impact on the team. The Texas native and former ULM of Monroe starting Lineman is building block by block, and I am excited to see where he can take the program.

There’s some leaders back to build around in 2024 All District LB A’hamad Jones 5-8 215 pounds 2nd year starter a thumper,  All District RB/DE Terroni Dominick 5-10 200 big time Athlete in program, QB Cameron Moore 5-11 170 high IQ game,2024 All District OL/DE/DT Dominick Jackson 6-0 260 motor SR leader,2024 All District OT/DE/DT Keshaun Hoskins 6-0 215 leader SR,  DT/OL Markayden Gabriel 6-1 250,  and WR/FS Tri’Keilun Harris 6-0 170 looking to have a breakout year in 2025.
