Tidbits: This will be Coach John Ware's 27th year to be a coach.12 years at North Webster had some great teams, there coached Devin White(LSU/NFL). .3 years at North Caddo did a great job there. Haynesville HS was there for 7 years, did a really good job, and Bolton HS for 3 years. Wherever the coach has been, he puts in the work and gets the most out of his players, and he’s doing it again at Lakeside High School. The program should dress close to 45 players in the fall, which is a good number for the team in Class 2A.
Three All District players return as leaders starting with QB/Safety Brock Case 5-10 165 a 3 year starter has good speed in the low 4.6 in the forty,2024 Hon Mention All State/All District RB/FB Kentravion Miller 5-10 210 brings power and quickness, and then there’s 2024 All District OG/MLB Caleb Barber 6-0 250 a big time leader for the trenches in the program.

Team Outlook: Really excited.I don't know how good we will be till we have more time over the Summer and early Fall. We have an opportunity to be really good. We now have kids who have been in the program for 3 years and know the system. I am excited about the kids we have in the program. I like our chances to be able to throw the ball more in 2025. I think the strength of our team going into Summer will be our Defense, we do tackle well as a team said Head Coach Darrell Barbay.”
The team will count on 2nd-year returning starter QB JJ Howard to have a good year.JJ started the last 3 games in 2024 and did a great job. He has electric ability as a player in this Offense. There will be several players who will get the football as an RB in this Offense. 2024 Hon Mention All State/All District RB/WR Terrell Pegues a 3 year starter 6-1 180 has big time ball skills returns, RB Lavel Claudio 5-7 148 4.5 speed in the forty really strong kid back for his 2nd year year starting, RB Jayden Hamilton 5-8 160 a really good Athlete, and RB/CB Zayvon Sanders 5-9 160 will rotate in for carries as well. When the Wolverines pass the ball, look for WR Jacoryan Greer 6-1 170, to be a big-time playmaker for the team, along with Pegues, and a new player, Marti Zebbs, 5-8 145. The Offense also returns some really good Tight Ends in Tamajah Carroll 6-4 190, Kendrick Wyatt 6-1 185, and TE/FB/MLB Jordan Hamilton 5-10 230. Many Tigers
Head Coach:Tyler Hassell(1st year)
2024 Record:0-10
2024 Playoffs: No
2023 Record:9-3.Quarterfinals lost to St. James HS
Key players Graduated: WR/SS Ky Warren, MLB Jonathan Anderson, OL Bryan Webb, OT/DT Layton Pleasant, DT/OT Caden Williams.
Team Outlook: Spring game, we had an inter squad game for Many High schools. We put in a new Offense & Defense for 2025. We are in a good spot. We are trying to build back to where the program was for so many years. We will get back to ground & pound but will still have multiple sets for the Offense and run the ball about 65% of the time said Head Coach Tyler Hassell.”
Tidbits: I thought this was a good hire. New Head Coach Tyler Hassell is not new to the program. He coached at Many High School as the team’s Defensive Coordinator from 2015 to 2022 under the then Head Coach Jess Curtis. Tyler also coached at Natchitoches Central High School in 2023, and in 2024 was the Offensive Line coach for Red River High School. Coach Hassell is a 2009 alumnus of Haughton High School, where he played football. The program is getting numbers back to 65 total players for the Fall season, and I can see the program back at 75 to 80 in 2026.
The Offense will return starting QB Kellen Cox for his 2nd year as the starter. Cox has a really good command of the Offense after talking to Coach Hassell. The Offense will also return one of the best players in the program, the last 3 years in RB Daniel Thomas, 5-10 175, with 4.59 speed in the forty. FB/FS Jonas Hendrickson 5-10 195 SR will be a 3-year starter in 2025 as one of the team's leaders. Also back is 3-year starter CB/WR Kash Oxley 6-0 165, one of the most athletic players on the team.
More players to keep a eye on are TE/FB Troy Rials 6-0 200 SR, CB/WR Evan Wilson 5-10 165 has good hands, FB/LB Rylan Lee 5-9 165 leader SR, OT/DE Lane Green 6-4 245 SR, RB/OLB JJ Stills 5-10 170, OG Gage Sanders 2nd year starter 6-0 260, DB Jaden Lee 6-0 170 1st year to start on varsity SR, DT/NG Aligha Woods 5-9 240 SR 1st year to start, TE/HB/OLB Payton Hyden 6-1 210 SR 2nd year starter, and 1st year starter Cole O’Conn 5-10 175 SR Strong Safety.

Team Outlook: Going to be a young team in 2025. We will also be a seasoned team, but we have a new system for all the players to learn for the upcoming year. We will be running more of a spread Offense in 2025. We have great numbers in total players; kids are working hard this offseason. We had over 85% of our players not miss workouts, which is very promising. Our mentality is to get stronger, faster, and play with high energy combined with hard work to have a great season in the end in 2025 said Head Coach Travis Gary.”
Tidbits: Head Coach Travis Gary, I covered back in the day(Class of 2016 Red River HS), not too long ago, he was a 4-year starter for Red River HS as a QB and safety. Coach Gary also was the program’s Defensive Back and Defensive Coordinator after week 5 in 2024. Coach Gary played college football for 2 years at ULM in Monroe, Louisiana.
The team will return a lot of potential with speed and really good numbers for a Class 2A school in 2025 to be very successful. The Offense will return QB Malique Smith, a SR 6-2 185 185-pound smart kid, All District in 2024/Offensive District MVP, and a leader for the team. The skill spots for the Offense has a chance to be some of the best in the District with RB Cedric Moody back 4.6 speed 5-10 190 bigger and stronger in 2024, WR/CB Carl Lewis back 6-2 175,2 way starter sleeper recruit WR/CB Landon Wilson back 5-11 180 4.5 speed in the forty as a SR,3 year starter WR/CB Warren Bowman 5-8 170 SR All District in 2024, WR/CB Emmanuel Scott 5-9 160 2nd year starter good hands, TE/HB/DE Gaylon Brewer 6-1 180 SR, leader, RB new starter gifted Lathan Lewis, and WR/OLB Tra’jalen Demerly 6-4 190 new starter. The Offensive Line will build around OT Jamarion Iverson, 6-3 195, 2nd year starter, OG/DT Karrington Owens, 5-11 240, the anchor of the unit leader, and young new starters OL Cole Pierce, 5-10 195, and OL Jacolby Caldwell, 6-3 260.
The Defense will be built around the leader and anchor Defensive, in 2024, All District Jarvis Whitaker 5-10 205 plays bigger than his size. Also keep an eye on FS Cameron Jones, All District in 2024 with 4.59 speed in the forty, DE Gaylon Brewer 6-1 180, FS Jaren Mitchell 5-8 165, and OLB Nathaniel Burton, a big time hitter and will also get some carries on Offense as an RB.
Special Teams, the Bulldogs will return one of the best Special Teams players in the state in 2024. All District Kick Returner Warren Bowman, a SR in 2025, had 1 touchdown on a Punt Return, and 3 touchdowns on Kickoff returns last year in 2024. The Kicking & Punting jobs are open going into the Spring & Summer.
Winnfield Tigers
Head Coach:Byron Keller(1st year)
2024 Record:4-7
2024 Playoffs:1st Round lost to Red River HS
2023 Record:2-8
Key players Graduated: RB/QB Damascus Lewis, DE/RB Jeremy Mamon, RB Jaylon Jackson, WR Jordan Washington, OG/OC Peyton Glenn, CB/WR Ja’ven Jackson, DE Jayvian Woods.
Team Outlook: I am excited about the personnel I will inherit. We will have some quality linemen in the program with size. I have been impressed with how hard these kids are working, and they have bought into the weight lifting off-season program said Head Coach Byron Keller.”
Tidbits: After talking to coach Keller, he is also excited about the talent coming up in the program told me the Junior High will also be very talented in the 7th and 8th grade classes. So the future of being a Tiger is exciting. There is a lot of proud history in the Winnfield High School record books over the years with some really good head coaches, 1971 Head coach was Joe Doshe,1976 Larry Dauterive was the head coach, Two State Titles in Football, in 1982, State Champions were under the head coach Doug Moreau, and another State Title in 1919. The school has produced some great Athlete’s over the years some i have seen play in person, and some i am just sharing history Safety Jeffrey Dale(LSU/NFL), Center Tommy Campbell(LSU), NBA great P.J Brown, RB Anthony Thomas(NFL Bears), LB Ricky Chatman(LSU/NFL), WR Alonzo Moore(Nebraska)and MLB Catcher Jack Wallace played for the Chicago Cubs (1915) and also was a Minor league manager.
The Offense will have a new QB in 2025. The leading candidate to be the big playmaker at QB will be the best player on the team, Detavious Williams, a Swiss army knife for the team, who can play many positions and will play CB/QB/RB/WR. There are two more players competing at QB in Nickalas Mockosler, 5-9 170, and QB Colby Pray, 5-8 16, both really smart players to run the Offense. So you might see all three play in 2025. The Offensive Line will be one of the biggest in all of Class 2A in 2025. The line you have OG/DT Lathan Street 5-11 280, OL Joe Lewis 6-3 300, OT Bradley Taylor 6-3 270, OL/TE/DT Jacob Crosler 6-3 290, OT Andrew Chevallier 6-0 275, and OC/DT Daniel Guerrero 5-10 205 SR the smallest of the group but very quick and tough. There’s also WR/TE/LB Gabe Wren 6-1 210, back for his 2nd year as a starter. The run game will be split among a talented group led by Detavious Williams, WR/RB/DB Richard Williams, and Craig St. Cyr, 5-9, 160 SR.
The Defense, you will see a few of the Offensive players playing both sides of the ball, but the leader of the group returns in 2024, All District LB Zaelyn Thomas 5-10 215 SR, also a FB/HB on Offense, should have a big year in 2025. The Defensive Line has a big-time Defensive Tackle back in Riley Armstrong, 6-2, 300 pounds.TE Gabe Wren will also start at LB to make this a pretty good group on Defense.Spring/Summer will be a time to see who starts in open competition for spots at LB and Defensive Back.
Special Teams you have at Long Snapper Cade Womack 5-9 190, and the leading candidate to be the Punter & Kicker will be Gabe Wren, who got experience in 2024 as a Punter and Kicker.
