Pleased with the young men in the program for welcoming me and my staff in a smooth transition, the team said Head Coach Devin Ducote.”
Tidbits: Head Coach Devin Ducote, back in the day, was a great All-District player at Parkview Baptist High School(Class of 2007), a big-time alum. Coach Ducote played football for Stephen F. Austin in Texas as an Outside Linebacker, coached at Stephen F. Austin as a grad assistant, Auburn in the SEC grad assistant, assistant coach at Catholic High School of Baton Rouge, and most recently, Head Coach of West Feliciana High School. Coach mentioned to me he expects about 50 players out for Fall practice from grades 9th to 12th grade. Coach Ducote brought some really good coaches over with him in Offensive Coordinator Justin Moreau, Defensive Coordinator Vince Thomas, Offensive Line coach Chop Wilson, and Defensive Line coach Alex Greavis.
The Offense will have several new starters. The new starting QB will be Logan Sorrel, 6-3 205, a starting OLB for the team in 2024, a really good Athlete who can run with a good arm. The run game you will have three talented players: starter Sevin Domingue, 5-10 18,0, new starter, RB Marquise Franklin, 5-11 195, future star, and RB/Safety Grant Gautreau, 5-10 160, SR, tough kidd who will play both sides of the ball for the team. The WR group you have Sully Edmonds 5-8 140 new starter, WR Landon Ripple 6-1 185 new starter from the Basketball team, athletic player, and RB Sevin Domingue will move outside from time to time as a WR too. The Offensive Line though young will have some size and potential lead by SR Jackson Loflin 6-0 260 3 year starter leader, OT Carter Steele 6-3 220 new starter, Center Jackson Villauwe 5-11 220 2nd year starter on the OL, OG Willie Williams 6-1 315 new starter, and OL Logan Parker 6-2 300 new starter. They will also return two really good HB/FB types in Blayden Blake, 5-1,1, 195, and HB/FB Noah Borill, 6-, 205.
The Defense, like the Offense, will have a few new faces in the starting lineup, but has a chance in time to be a pretty good Defense. Players to keep a eye on are OLB John Lee 6-0 180 2nd year starter, LB Peyton Jenkins 5-11 180, LB Blane Burrell 6-1 195, DE Carson Grantham 6-0 185 new starter, DT Landyn Smith 6-1 350, Safety Grant Herrington 6-1 165 leader, CB Cruz Maddie 5-10 145, CB Christian Richardson 5-10 150, and Safety Adam Marien 5-9 145.
Special Teams will return, rn I think, the best Kicker in Louisiana if you look at it from a 4-year standpoint on kicks made and distance, and consistency. 2024 All State Kicker SR Gavin Higgins 6-0 185. This kid doesn’t get rattled, any distance, and his Kickoffs have been 5 yards deep in the End Zone since his Soph year in High School. Higgins will also handle Punting duties.
Port Allen Pelicans
Head Coach:Antoine Washington(1st year)
2024 Record:5-7
2024 Playoffs:1st Round won & 2nd Round lost to Church Point HS.
2023 Record:6-6.2nd Round lost to Union Parish HS
Key players Graduated: DE/OLB Laderrien Burns, WR/RB/Kicker Brennan Gibson, LB/RB Josh Howard, DE Zion Perry, LB Tyler Hill, OL Jacob Stewart, CB Cederick Collins.
Team Outlook: We graduated 16 seniors from the 2024 season. We have some big holes to fill across the board, linemen and skill players. We need the young players in the trenches to develop over the offseason for this program. Most of the 16 seniors who graduated played and contributed to the program. We graduated every starting Offensive Lineman to graduation in the program from the 2024 season, said Head Coach Antoine Washington.
Tidbits: New Head Coach Antoine Washington graduated from Port Allen HS in 2007 and played Left Tackle for Port Allen HS back in the day. After talking to him over the phone this Spring, he loves the school and will try and do everything he can to get players out for football, walking the halls at the school to come out for the first time in 2025. Coach Washington was Port Allen’s Offensive Line coach and also Offensive Coordinator in 2024. Coach told me former Pelican great Damien Dixon will be a part of the staff in 2025. Dixon played WR for Nebraska and WR/DB for Port Allen HS. The Boys Basketball program won 4 Straight State Championships from 2020 to 2023.
The program is hoping QB Hunter Bodin returns for his junior season. Right now, it is up in the air whether he will come back or not. If he does, it will make a huge difference for this program. Hunter is 6-1, 180 pounds, and a really good Athlete. The Offense will turn to Kaleb West, 6-1, 170, for big plays in a young Offense in 2025. West can run a legit 4.5 forty and will play WR/DB and maybe QB if Bodin doesn’t return for football. The ideal goal is for West to be a full-time WR. There are many positions up for grabs in Spring & Summer but here’s some key players to keep a eye on WR/CB Dearies Taylor 2nd year starter and maybe some RB 5-8 165, WR/Safety Jalen Duhon 3rd year starter 6-1 192, OT/DE Kaden Thomas 6-2 225 new starter, DT Tyran Harris 5-11 205, RB Harlan Anderson 5-9 170, RB Cortez McClain 5-8 160, WR Shantrell Whaley 6-2 175, Safety Jonathan Lanes 5-10 170 most improved player during Spring, CB/WR Malachi Bennett 5-10 150, DT Kevin West 5-11 230 lettered 2024, LB Joseph Thomas 6-1 175, OT Jason Ferguson 6-2 210 new player, and DE/OLB William Henderson 6-2 190 another new player competing for starting spot in 2025.
Special Teams are wide open, probably through the Summer, for starting spots for Punter & Kicker.

Tidbits: Head Coach Andy Martin is an alumnus of Opelousas Catholic High School. Coach Martin will be entering his 25th overall season with University Lab High School. The Cubs, on paper, still have the talent to compete for State Championships. The key will be staying healthy with young players on both sides of the football. Anytime you have close to 12 players capable of signing in the same year, you have a championship team coming back. There will be several players on the 2025 team playing on Saturday one day. The football program has 6 State Championships in the school's rich history. Also, University Lab High School won the State Championship in Boys Soccer in 2025.
The Offense will have a new QB for the first time in 2 years.QB Ethan McGlynn 6-0 175 has experience getting reps in 2024 with 4 touchdown passes, going 14/22 in completions when he got his opportunity. There is also QB Cooper Odle, 5-9, 165, who is pushing McGlynn for the starting job in 2025. Both kids know the Offense and will be excited to see how it plays out come football season. The Offense, though a few skill players graduated, does return as much talent or more in 2025, starting at RB with Corbin Odell ran for 421 yards with 7 touchdowns in 2024, and RB Sage Ingram ran for 497 yards with 4 touchdowns in 2024, to give the team and really good 1-2 punch. There’s also depth at RB with Ethan Spooner, 5-6 170, and Tamon Donald, 5-11 235, both rotating in to make this a deep unit. The WR position also has big potential, led by WR William Martin, 5-11, 165 new starter, WR/DB Kameron Grisby, 6-3, 180, and WR/OLB Lawson Dixon, 5-10, 180, all talented players. The Offensive Line will have several new starters but the Cubs return some talented players in OL/DL Lamar Brown 6-4 300 SR 2024 All State Offensive Lineman, OL Lawson Guidry 6-1 260, OL/DL Maison Smith 6-3 285, OC/OL Jacquet Hart 5-8 260 new starter, OT/DE Jordan Pinnock 6-5 245, TE Charlie Pettit 6-3 225(3 touchdown catches in 2024), and Eli Rainey 6-0 250 Center/OL rotating in anywhere on the OL.
The Defense will return leadership from 2024 Hon Mention All State SR LB Lane Mixon 5-10 215 lead the team in tackles in 2024, SR Darius Coleman 6-0 180 can play number of spots OLB/DB had 5 Sacks in 2024 with 2 interceptions, DB Ben Picarella 6-1 170 35 tackles in 2024, and DB Emanuel Moses 5-9 185 had 15 tackles in 2024.
More players to watch for in 2025 on Defense are big time SR CB Erin Moore 5-10 170, DB Lorenzo Cooper 5-10 165, LB Kayden Sims-Grassi 6-0 205, LB/DE Talamesi Albert 5-11 240 new starter, SS James Upton 5-11 195 2nd year starter, DE Bradley Goodson 6-3 200 new starter, DT Christian Shaw 6-1 255 new starter, and DT Jackson Hester 6-1 270 pounds will rotate in and has a great future with the program.
Special Teams Kicker/Punter Mason Melancon returns 5-9 160 pounds, made 31/34 extra points in 2024, and averaged over 31 yards per punt in 2024 with a good hang time.
