2023 Louisiana Prep Football Preview: Sam Houston High School (Moss Bluff)

Sam Houston Broncos

By Lee Brecheen

Head Coach: Chad Davis (2nd year)

2022 Record: 4-6

Class & District: Class 5A (District 3)

Sam Houston High School has become the surprise team out of Southwest Louisiana. It’s hard to win in Class 5A and Sam Houston is already 5-0 (2-0 in District) which is impressive considering the teams they have to play usually have more players but not this year. The Broncos have more depth than in years past and they have the stuff to go deep in the playoffs. The hard work is paying off in 2023 for Coach Davis and the program.

The offense has so far become a force for points with a few players already having a great year like QB Gavin Stout (6-1, 165), ATH/WR/RB Gavin Breaux, WR Ayden Rose (6-1, 165) who is a big-time playmaker, WR Drew Dronet (5-9, 170), RB Drew Bailey (5-9, 180), TE Cole Flanagan (6-1, 210) and WR Ty Stout (6-0, 165). The offensive line has some big guys up front including OL Conner Long (6-4, 300, Sr.) who is a sleeper prospect, OT Conner Ducote (6-3, 300, Sr.) who is a big-time player, center Jack Davis (6-1, 280), OT Cruise Livingston (6-1, 225) and OL Dennis Myers (5-9, 245, Sr.).

The defense has a strong unit so far in 2023. The front is led by DE/DT Hunter Dautriel (6-2, 265), three-year starter Wyatt Fontenot (6-2, 230, Sr.) who is averaging eight tackles per game in 2023), LB Elijah Scarborough (5-11, 205, Sr.), LB Keaton Sonnier (5-11, 210), DT Albert Simien, DT Caleb Lemonier (5-10, 260, Sr.), DE Romalis Jackson (6-3, 215), CB/FS Cooper Smith and CB/WR Aaron Gott.
