Lee Brecheen’s Week 8 Recruiting Tidbits
by Jace LeJeune
Last week, Louisiana Football Magazine’s very own Lee Brecheen went on a trip to Shreveport to see some of the best teams the area has to offer. While visiting some of these elite programs in North Louisiana, Brecheen also got the chance to talk with some coaches and players on what is going on in the world of recruiting. Check out what he was able to find out over the weekend below.
Airline High School senior TE Antavius Freeman (6-2, 245) is going the junior college route next season. Freeman told me that he wants to go to junior college to work on his game. He will be a big time player at the next level.
C.E. Byrd High School senior defensive back Chondrick Lofton (5-10, 181) missed the Evangel Christian Academy game because of an injury. I got the chance to talk to him on the sidelines. He is a super smart kid and is really wanting to walk on at Louisiana Tech. The scoop there is that Lofton may pass a couple of D-II offers to walk on at Tech. In fact, his trainer was a former player for the Bulldogs.
I also talked to senior CB Avaunte Steward (6-0, 181) and his father before the game. Steward is still looking for some of the big offers, but he will get some by the end of the season.
Senior kicker/punter Scotty Roblow (6-4, 165) is another under the radar player for Byrd. He had himself a really good game as well.
Captain Shreve High School seniors OL Cade Davis (6-3, 250), OL Eric Harper (6-5, 330), OL Dalton Clark (6-3, 285), MLB/TE Nial Wilson (5-11, 225), WR Brin Wilson (5-11, 200), and WR Jaquez Jones (6-1, 175) are all getting heavy D-II and D-III looks.
Evangel Christian Academy transfer OL Cameron Davis (6-2, 325) is getting some SWAC schools, but really likes Millsaps College.
Evangel Christian Academy senior WR Horatio Ruffins (5-8, 170) is super big time. Ruffins did not get a lot of playing time last year due to a lot of his teammates signing with DI colleges. He is the best slot wide receiver outside of Jacob Bernard (Lakeshore) in my opinion. The scoop on Ruffins is that he is getting a lot of D-II and D-III interests, but he is about to get some DI interests soon.
Senior offensive lineman Christian Perry (6-2, 305) is a big time player that is also going to get some DI offers in the end. As of right now, Perry has been looked at by some SWAC schools as well as some other D-II schools.
Perry’s teammate Alvin Ford (6-3, 275) is also being looked at by some SWAC schools and has been offered by Texas State.
Elijah Chatman (5-11, 260) committed to the SMU Mustangs because he was promised an opportunity to play both fullback in goal line situations and at defensive tackle.
Oklahoma State commit Na’Drian Dizadare (6-2, 210) was given the opportunity to play either outside linebacker or defensive end for the Cowboys. Also, one of the Oklahoma State Cowboy assistant coaches was at the Evangel Christian Academy/C.E. Byrd football game this past Thursday.
Senior defensive end Djimon Hill (6-1, 250) is another talented player for the Eagles. However, he has had two big knee injuries, which held a lot of colleges. Right now, he has no DI offers, but he can get those offers late in the year. Hill has the potential to play for a ULM as well as some other DI colleges.
Coach Byron Dawson has said that long snapper Treveon Lovelace (5-10, 265) is big time for his position.
Senior defensive end Chris Thomas (6-2, 230) is committed to Nicholls State.
Green Oaks High School senior DE Chaz Crawford (6-2, 255) is a DI player, but I think that he should start off at the junior college level before signing at the DI level.
Senior WR Davion Sanders (6-0, 170) is an all-world type of player with a 6-1 frame and good speed. I believe he is a SEC caliber player.
I talked to Loyola College Prep senior WR John Williams (6-0, 168) before their game against Green Oaks High School last Friday. Williams is the program record holder in receptions and receiving yards for the Flyers. Mississippi Valley has offered Williams a scholarship and Louisiana Tech has offered him a preferred walk on. Williams is really high on attending Louisiana Tech as a preferred walk on with an opportunity to earn a scholarship and play.
