Louisiana Football Editor and Owner Lee Brecheen has scouted all of these guys from the 2013 season all the way to now. Lee has seen these guys in person whether it was in games or in team practices. The opinions about these players below are only from Lee Brecheen not from any other recruiting site.
A couple of articles ago, I wrote an article on one of the best cornerbacks in the New Orleans area in St. Augustine CB Jeremiah West according to Lee Brecheen. Today, I am writing an article on the other great cornerback in the New Orleans area McDonogh 35’s Kevin Berthey who Louisiana Football Magazine’s Lee Brecheen thinks is just as good as Jeremiah West.
In a league that is full of star defensive backs in the Catholic league when you look back at New Orleans greats like Craig Steltz (former defensive back for Archbishop Rummel and LSU), Tyrann Mathieu (defensive back for St. Augustine, LSU, and the Arizona Cardinals), Richie Petitpon (former defensive back for Jesuit, Tulane and the Washington Redskins), newcomers like Kristian Fulton (Rummel and currently with LSU), and many more have first made their name in the Catholic league. This year, the Catholic league possesses a new star at cornerback and his name is Jeremiah West.
On offense, the most important position is the quarterback but arguably the second most important is the center because he is the one who snaps the football and gives the ball to the quarterback in the first place. The center must also be the quarterback of the offensive line and communicate the blocking assignments to the rest of the offensive line.
Brother Martin RB/OLB Bruce Jordan-Swilling is arguably the best high school football player in the state of Louisiana and one of the best recruits in the entire country. For all the New Orleans Saints football fans, Bruce is the son of future hall of fame linebacker Pat Swilling, who played seven seasons with the New Orleans Saints and had five Pro Bowls in his career. Bruce Jordan-Swilling is looking to build his own legacy and has impressed a lot of high school football fans since he first started for the Crusaders as a sophomore.
There is a quarterback tradition at Isidore Newman High School. Think of some of the best quarterbacks in the NFL. You think of Peyton Manning and Eli Manning. Both those quarterbacks went to Isidore Newman High School. This year, there is another quarterback that can add his name to QBU and that is Miles Lapeyre.
Hahnville DT Tre’Vas Chambers has all the tools to become a great defensive lineman. He’s big enough to play on the defensive line at a D-1 school and at the same time, he has the quickness to chase down running backs in the backfield and to get around offensive lineman. He can stuff the run and rush the passer.
East St. John QB Marquise Darensbourg has had himself a very interesting high school career. He was the starting QB at Destrehan as a sophomore and has transferred to East St. John last year. For whatever team he is on, coaches would love to have a guy like Marquise to come in and be the quarterback for the team.
Archbishop Rummel SS/OLB Derrick Munson is one of the most unique and versatile players in the state as he plays strong safety but can also line up in the box and play like a linebacker. He is a linebacker and safety hybrid and that makes Derrick a special player. He goes out and gives 100% on each play and will hit you as hard as he can.
St. Charles Catholic High School Kicker Andrew Rodrigue may not get the attention of some other kickers in the state like Mandeville Kicker Joseph Bulovas but he can still get the job done as he only missed one field goal last year.
