“We had a fun year in 2022 but a lot of our key positions are young as we lost a lot of great kids to graduation,” said Teurlings Catholic head coach Dane Charpentier. “The guys coming up are hungry and we have a lot of eager young talent competing for spots too. We had some great offensive line play during spring & summer for our program.”
The program has a chance to repeat what they did in 2022 and more because their three-year starting QB returns in D1 sleeper Preston Welch (6-2, 210) who is coming off a season where he threw for 37 Touchdowns. The offensive line will be the key this year with great size back and experience in OT Brantley Habetz (6-4, 225), OT Gresham Perry (6-4, 285), OG/DT Drake Perry (6-2, 260), OG Jase Serette (6-3, 290). There will be others getting time to make up one of the best offensive lines in all of Class 4A. The run game can go to as many as three running backs. The first player is senior RB Ayden Trahan (5-9, 185, 4.5 speed), who is a transfer from Acadiana High School where he was a three-year starter, Douge Viltz (5-9, 175) who lettered in 2022, and RB Cason Evans (5-9, 175) who has track speed (4.45 forty). In the passing game, there’s a lot to replace but talent back in TE Jack Purser (6-2, 215, 4.6 speed) who can also play some Wildcat QB, TE/WR Travis Gellian (6-2, 225, 4.6 speed) and senior WR Bradford Cain (5-10, 170) who is a three-year starter with hands and really good speed on the field. Look out for younger players to battle for the open spots in fall practice.

The defense in this program always is led by their linebacking group and this year is no different. LB Jack Ortego (6-2, 190) who is a tough hitter, LB Jackson Broussard (5-11, 195), OLB Allan Black-Hayes 6-2 215 SR tough tackler, and OLB Nick Dellumo (5-11, 205). The defensive line at the time of the interview still had players competing but young Drake Perry (6-2, 260) will be one player inside starting with good feet. The defensive backfield has two great cornerbacks returning in senior Peyton Jones (5-11, 175, 4.45 speed or better), CB Gylen Ford (6-1, 195) also has 4.5 speed and RB Ayden Trahan will play some strong safety too. The secondary will have FS Kaleb Daniels as well who was another talented young player that lettered in 2022.

Special Teams returns a talented Kicker in Charlie Mader, who should be in line for a great year in 2023.

A big-time player from Teurlings Catholic’s 2023 senior class, WR Kentrell Prejean, signed a football scholarship to play for defending FCS national champions South Dakota State. Prejean is the first football player from TCHS to sign a football scholarship with South Dakota State.
