Head coach Cody Gueringer will do an incredible job at Sulphur HS. He comes from a program at Welsh HS where they won a state title in 2017 & were the state runner-up in 2018. He was the offensive coordinator at Welsh HS when they won it all in 2017 before becoming head coach in 2019. He was also on the staff at Kinder HS when the program won the state title in 2013.
“While I was the Head coach for Welsh HS we won 10 games and won a playoff game and every year we were used to going to the playoffs, so we will bring that energy here to Sulphur and change the culture to expect to win every year. In my four years at Welsh, we did not have a single losing season.”

The Sulphur offense will be led by its offensive line. This group has a chance to be one of the best if not the best units by season’s end. You have senior OL Noah Mouton (5-9, 230), senior OL Clay Perkins (6-1, 270), senior OL Gunner Farmer (6-7, 290), OT Stran Constance (6-6, 270), OG/OC Troy Gann (5-11, 225). There’s also LSU commit TE John David LaFleur (6-6, 265) who is still growing and is one of the best blocking tight ends in the nation, let alone the state.
When they throw the football, they have some really good receivers in senior Austin Babaz (6-2, 180) who has both great hands and speed (4.6 forty), WR Drake German (6-1, 185) is also the team’s backup QB. The Golden Tornadoes also have WR Brodie DePriest (5-7, 155, 4.5 speed), Greyson Stelly (5-10, 175, 4.6 speed) and the athletic WR Ian Malone (6-1, 170). TE John David LaFleur this is his year to become a part of the passing game because of his size and raw talent he has a chance like his dad to become a special player in time. The run game has a group of players who will rotate in lead by running backs Luke Clark and RB Dax Duhon (5-8, 185).

The starting QB for fall will be senior Addison Constance (6-0, 185) who has a chance to be a pretty good player and you could also see some of Drake German as well. Both kids can help this team win.
The defense will rely on quickness and toughness as a unit to become a tough group in a tough 5A district. The front seven consists of DT Tyler Harris (6-4, 295), DT Drake Mays (5-10, 225), senior Preston Cain (5-11, 230), three-year starter LB Jay Michael Stelly (5-11, 210) who is a team leader, OLB Tajhai Smith (5-11, 190), LB Ryden Martin (5-10, 180), LB William Gunter (5-10, 185) and senior OLB Carson Cauvin (5-9, 180). Sulphur’s defensive backfield consists of FS Alijah Coleman (5-10, 170, 4.6 speed), Slade Knox (6-0, 175), DB Isaias Lebaron (5-11, 190, 4.55 speed) and senior CB Brody Turner (5-9, 165).

The special teams at the time of the interview were wide open still before fall practice.
