“Everybody is going to play both sides of the ball,” said St. Louis Catholic head coach Brock Matherne. “We are going to put the best 11 players on the field. We need to replace the whole defensive backfield so moving people around to find our best players. The senior class has 15 players with a lot of experience.
The offense will have a new starting quarterback in Luke Pierson (6-1, 180, Sr.) but he has been in the system for three years. He also is a starting defensive back and had 45 tackles with two interceptions in 2022. There’s also a young QB with a lot of ability in Konner Boudreaux (6-2, 180), who can play if needed during the season and is the QB of the future for the team. The offense when they run the ball will give carries to RB/LB Noah Ellender (6-0, 175, Sr.) 2nd year of playing football and RB Kyle Turner (5-10, 180, Sr.) and a returning starter with good speed and athletic ability. The wide receiver spots have Andrew Svarney (6-2, 175) and senior Trey Tate (6-2, 185, Sr.) with good speed and hands. Both these kids will be counted on to have big years for this program to score a few points in 2023. The offensive line has some talent to make all this work for the Offense lead by OT Colton Guillory (6-5, 255), center Evan Rodricks (6-0, 205), OL/DL Ethan Goss (5-10, 205, Sr.), DT/OL Kyle Lebato (6-0, 265), All-District OL/DL Jordan Davis (6-3, 275) big-time sleeper for college, OL Jacob Fruge (6-3, 268, Sr.) and four-year starterOL/DE Kade Nugent, who is a.
The defense will be led by its tough defensive front line and Linebackers with players like LB Graham Montet (5-10, 205) who had 156 tackles with 9.5 tackles for loss in 2022), LB Luke Mere (6-1, 210) who had 109 tackles, six tackles for loss and two sacks in 2022, two-way starter DT Kade Nugent who had 81 tackles, eight sacks and 23 tackles for loss in 2022, DT Ethan Goss two-way starter who had 59 tackles, six tackles for loss and two sacks in 2022, DT Nathan Gray (6-1, 220) who lettered in 2022 and OLB Noah Ellender. The defensive backfield has some talent too in leader Hank Hebert (5-10, 175) who had 53 tackles, four interceptions and seven passes broken up in 2022, CB Christian Guillory (6-4, 180, Sr.) who had a late bloomer with 4.6 speed, new starter safety Kaleb Lanthier (5-9, 170) who lettered in 2022 and other young players will round out the back end.
The special teams always strong for St. Louis, will be strong again in 2023 with returning starter kicker/punter Landon Daughdrill (5-9, 175, Sr.) who has a strong leg. Kicker Zach Sugandi (5-8, 185) will handle kickoffs.
The program had two players go to college for sports from the 2022 season: WR Grant Evans (walk-on at Mississippi State) and former starting QB James Reina is headed to Bossier City Community College in college baseball.
