“The kids are working hard,” Pope John Paul II head coach Phillip Pigot said. “We are a very young team as we have four seniors total for the 2023 season. However, the future is bright with many young players in the program.”
Like a lot of teams in 2A, the Jaguars will have a lot of two-way starters. At quarterback, Pope John Paul II will start QB/OLB Allen Ramer (6-2, 185) who also starts at outside linebacker on defense. Ramer has a good arm and has some upside. The team has skill talent on both sides of the football WR/DB Gus Pizza (5-11, 185), TE/OLB Mikey Strain (6-2, 205), RB/WR/DB Blaze Rodriguez (5-9, 155, 4.5 speed), CB/RB Josh Greenwood (5-9, 170, 4.6 speed), FB Dominick Smith (5-10, 195), All-District RB/DB Landon Guidry (5-10, 165, 4.6 speed), FS Joseph Sprinkle (6-2, 180) has a ton of ability, CB/RB Aiden Fairchild (5-10, 165), SS/FS Trey Dieudonne 5-11 155 Athlete and MLB Cole Monnier (6-1, 190) new starter with upside.
In the trenches you have OC/OG/DT Sean Smith (6-3, 275) who benches 325 and squats over 600 pounds, second-year starter DE Nick Andre (6-0, 210), OT/DT Jax Dean (6-1, 250), talented OT/DT Colin Kornru (6-3, 265), DE Brady Deharde (6-3, 215) still growing young player, MLB/OG Michael Thiel (6-0, 215) leader and DT/NG Wesley Geiman (5-11, 215) tough kid in the middle of the defensive front.

The program always seems to have great punters and kickers and in 2023 they have that again in punter Kale Oerthing (5-11, 170) with a strong leg and kicker Daniel Whitehouse (6-1, 180, Sr.) who was All-State last season and has a powerful leg.
Coach Pigot is a graduate of Pope John Paul II High School. Coach Pigot also walked on the LSU football team once upon a time. The staff has two coaching legends with over 80 years of coaching experience combined with former longtime Slidell head coach Wayne Grubb and his longtime assistant coach and successor Artie Liuzzo.
