The St. Edmund Blue Jays are off to a 3-1 start and are looking like one of the most dangerous teams in Class 1A come playoff time.
The offense all goes through QB Kane West, a 2nd year starter with 1,200 passing yards in his first year in 2022, and in 2023 already has two touchdowns passing. The run game has depth and talent with Ke’von Johnson who is averaging 238 yards per game in 2023 and leads the state in total rushing yards, RB Henry Summerlin, who ran for over 500 yards in 2022, RB Nathan Driggs and RB Zane Zaunbrecher. The passing game has options at WR with players like Blake Moran leading the team in stats for a WR with over 500 yards in 2022, two-way starter WR/DB Marcus Gradney, WR Brighten LeDay and John Paul Fruge having a great year with 11 tackles per game game on defense as an OLB/SS.
The offensive line has good size led by Hayden Lesage (6-0, 280), a tough kid, OL/DL Charles Sonnier (6-1, 300), four-year starter Center Matthew McGee (5-8, 230, Sr.), a 4-year starter, OG Jon Michael Brown (6-1, 190) and OL Ryan Young (6-0, 220).
The special teams are really strong with Punter Ian Rider, who currently has a 34.33 Average in three games, and Kicker Nathan Briggs.
The defense has speed and tough kids that attack the run.
