Springfield Bulldogs
By Lee Brecheen
Head Coach: Ryan Serpas (16th year)
2022 Record: 3-7
Class & District: Class 2A (District 7)
Springfield High School has been one of the most improved teams in Class 2A as the Bulldogs have already eclipsed their win total from last season. After their 52-14 victory over Central Private, the Bulldogs have a 4-1 record.
The offense is already having a good year led by three-year starter QB Luke Husser (6-6, 220), a sleeper with a cannon arm who is coming on this year in 2023. The rest of the two-way starters are OT Tyler Gardner (6-4, 285), a returning starter and big-time player, RB Jaturis Buggage (5-8, 165, Sr.), a two-year starter who ran for 350 yards at Albany High School in 2022 with quickness and power for his size, RB Nick Fletcher (5-10, 205, Sr.), WR Peyton Gibbons (6-0, 170) who has good hands, LB Maddox Fannaly (6-1, 200, 4.79 speed, Sr.), WR Caden Dykes (6-4, 215) has good size and is a sleeper, four-year starter OL/DL Walton Lee (6-3 275, 5.0 speed), DB Tavias McGee (5-9, 155, Sr.), who was all-district in basketball, DB CJ Pittman (5-10, 170, 4.6 speed), OL/DL Keel Konner (5-10, 225) who is a big-time wrestler for the school and second-year starter OL Seth Spears (5-10, 220).
I have the utmost respect for head coach Ryan Serpas, the longtime head coach of the Springfield High School football team. Coach Serpas cares about his players, loves the game and wins with what he has every year.
