The Southwood Cowboys program has gone winless the last two seasons. The program has some talent and experience from the last two years of playing younger players going into this season. I am pulling for these kids to get in the win category, and they might shock some folks this year overall.
The talent is there to turn things around and I know head coach Mike Green is working hard to do that. The team just needs to find some chemistry and put it all together. Coach Green was in a similar task when he was head coach of Mansfield High School and did a good job there with what he had at that time. Coach Green was the offensive coordinator for Woodlawn (Shreveport) High School in the 2022 season.
In my short 33 years of covering and following football, I did learn one thing. If you have a few big linemen who are strong in High School with experience, you have a chance to win some games. This year Southwood will have the quality lineman to turn things around. In the trenches, you have team captain OL/DL Ashton Player (6-3, 275, Sr.), OL Nickolas Robinson (6-2, 265, Sr.), DT Cato Hines (5-10, 245, Sr.), DT Travail Hamilton (6-4, 280, Sr.) who had 7.5 sacks in 2022, DE Roderick Bates (5-11, 215), OG/DT Nicolas Robinson (6-2, 245, Sr.), DE Kameron Brackens (6-1, 240, 4.7 speed), DT David Brown (5-9, 235), OT Cameron Conway (6-5, 310) and LB/DE Ja’than Skinner 5-10 210. The skill talent is there too to compete with CB/RB Detravien Williams ( 4 Interceptions in 2022 & 8 pass breakups gifted player) (6-1, 170, 4.5 speed, Sr.) who is a college prospect, WR/QB/Athlete Michael Morgan 6-1 210, QB/ATH Cornelious Martin (5-10, 170), WR/DB/QB Detonion Arkansas (6-2, 175) who lead the team in touchdowns in 2022, WR/DB/HB Zamarion Tageleeri (5-9, 160, 4.5 speed), FB Jabaree Cook (5-10, 220, Sr.), WR Lyguinton Pinkney (6-3, 175), ATH/LB Caleb Nunsant (5-10, 210, 4.6 speed, Sr.), CB Dylan Turner (5-8, 170, 4.5), RB Jeremy Taylor (5-8, 185, 4.6 speed) and WR Eric Baulkman (6-1, 170, 4.6 speed).
