South Plaquemines started off the year with a big win over Mamou High School 55-16 but they have lost two close games against a really good Belle Chasse High School team 20-6 and 26-18 to Jewel Sumner High School.
The team has experienced leaders in four-year starter Richie Espadron (6-1, 237) who does it all for the team as he is the quarterback, running back and defensive end/outside linebacker and he can handle the kicking and punting duties when needed. Other experienced leaders back are DE/OT Brysten Prout (6-1, 225), who is a three-year starter in three different sports, three-year starter OT/DT Tylon Riley (6-2, 230) who has a good motor, DT/NG Aiden Gonzales (5-9, 310), three-year starter RB/WR Jyheim Williams (4.55 speed), third-year starter QB Roderick Parker Jr. who is one of the leaders on this team and team captain Alex Phillips who can play both linebacker and safety for this team and he is a big-time hitter. The team has some more great players with speed and size in FS Dawson Gilhang (6-0, 160, 4.45 speed), WR/TE/DE Deanel McGee (4.7 speed), RB/OLB Khilan Williams (5-5, 165, 4.4 speed), CB Josh Barthelemy (5-10, 160) who is poised to have a big year coming off an injury in 2022, DB Davon Green 5-6 165 SR, LB Dean Ancalade (5-8, 170), DE Zae’Sean Riley (6-0, 195) and DB Talen Om (5-9, 155 Sr.).

On special teams, you have kicker Jose Sales, a new starter with a strong leg up to 45 yards already.
South Plaquemines head coach Lyle Fitte is a graduate of South Plaquemines High School where he was All-State running back for the program. He was a great player to watch back in the day whenever I would cover the Hurricanes when he played. Coach Fitt was also a running back and a kick returner for Louisiana Tech and for under Sonny Dykes and Skip Holtz.
