Sophie B. Wright High School is playing its 10th season of football this year. The Warriors are hoping to build off of its successful season last year.
The new QB will be Paul Chester who comes over from the defensive side of the football in 2022. Great athlete Chester brings to the team and has a great future at the position. The run game has options in RB Avante McKinnis (5-11, 230) is a tough runner and moves well for a guy his size and RB Danny Francis Jr. (5-10, 180, Sr.), who returns after missing most of last year due to injury. The team also has RB/FS Dallas Hughes (6-0, 180, Sr.), a three-year starter leader and one of the best players in the program with 4.59 speed. The Warriors have three good options in the passing game with WR Osirion Scott (5-8, 165), a three-year starter with 4.45 speed, second-year starter WR Enos Jones (5-10, 170) and CB/WR Terrance Joseph had a great spring & summer with a lot of ability and 4.5 speed.
Key lineman and linebackers back are MLB/TE Jarius Stephen (6-0, 205, Sr.), a four-year starter and leader, three-year starter OT/DT Shakeem Cox (6-3, 275) who was All-District in 2022 and three-year starter, LB/RB Donovan Taylor (5-11, 180) who is a second-year starter and OG Jon Filos (6-4, 320, Sr.) who’s coming off a injury in 2022.
Head Coach Kenneth Dorsey graduated from Homewood High School in Birmingham, Alabama (Class of 2007). He played football at both Homewood and ULM where he started as a linebacker/defensive end.
CB/WR Donte Glass signed with Southeastern out of the Class of 2023.
