Loreauville head coach Terry Martin graduated from Cecilia HS in 1986. College from USL in 1992 and also was in the Marine Core before going to college.2023 will mark Coach Martin’s 30th year of coaching. He spent 11 years as an assistant at Breaux Bridge HS before becoming the head coach for 12 years at Cecillia HS from 2004 to 2015.
Loreauville will be without its 2022 All-State RB/ATH Evan Simon to graduation. He is thinking of going to Pearl River Junior College to play football.
The offense will have something you don’t see much in Class 2A football as the Tigers have two quarterbacks with experience to lead the program in senior Trevor Dooley (5-8, 170) & QB Hayden Benoit. Both kids can lead this team to victory and when one is not in the game as the QB the other will be starting somewhere on the field for this program.
The offense will feature a few kids rotating for carries. The running back unit consists of RB Blake Delcambre, who has 4.6 speed, RB Ridge Honore who is very tough to bring down, RB/LB Maddox Savoy 5-9 195 power with hands and quick, and two-way starter Joshua Polk (5-8, 155, Sr.) will enter the mix too. When the team throws the football they have senior TE Logan Templet (6-0, 195) who is also starting linebacker for the team, WR/FS Kylon Polk, a second-year starter who is a big playmaker, new starting WR Gavin Judice new starter with 4.6 speed and senior TE/LB Jack David Martin (6-0, 199).
“We like to run counter a lot on offense and some power with a two-back set,” Martin said. “We love gap schemes and will run some play action when needed. I like our RB depth in 2023 and you will see a few players share the ball because I believe in my best years as a coach you never have enough RB depth to win games on Friday nights. We also have two very capable quarterbacks who can play as our starter is back from an injury last year and the other quarterback got to play because of an injury to the starter. It feels good to have both those kids back on offense.”
In the trenches, there will be two-way starters in four-year starting senior OT/DE Kaine Olivier (6-3, 210), DT/OL Evan Kilsby (6-1, 240), who is a new starter but lettered in 2022, and four-year starting senior OG/LB Trace McHugh (5-9, 185) who was All-District on both sides of the football in 2022. The Tigers also have three-year starting OL/DT Dylan Singleton (6-3, 280), two-year starting OL/DL Owen Broussard (6-2, 255), new starting center Carlos Martin (5-9, 205) as well as other young players to supply depth in fall.
The Defense also has a leader in second-year starting senior SS Braden Burch (5-6, 145) who is a strong kid. Just about everyone mentioned above will get reps on defense also in 2023.
One of Coach Martin’s former players has made himself a name at the next level as former Loreauville CB Zy Alexander is projected to be LSU’s starting corner next season after he transferred in from Southeastern where he was a two-time FCS All-American.
“One day I think I can put him up there in the same breath as former (LSU RB) Domanick Davis who I coached at Breaux Bridge HS,” Martin said. “Alexander has incredible character and work ethic second to none I’ve ever been around. He also timed as one of the fastest players for LSU this off season on the defensive side of the ball at 6-2, 190. We are so happy that in his free time he comes back to Loreauville HS and trains when he’s not at LSU.”
