Head Coach: Clifford Paul (5th year)
2022 Record: 6-5
Class & District: Class 1A (District 7)
2022 Playoffs: Lost to Delhi in 1st Round of Division IV (Non-Select) Playoffs
Head Coach Clifford Paul does a great job with a small group of seniors every year and has to play 8th graders on varsity to win games. Graduating Jeanerette HS football player Richard Lumpkin missed the 2022 season with an injury but will walk on for Nicholls this upcoming season. The Colonels got a steal as Lumpkin started four years in the program and would have been 5 years if had not missed the 2022 season. Lumpkin has 4.5 speed and great athletic ability.
“We made history as a school hosting a playoff game at home for the first time in the history of the school in 2022. I am excited because we have 22 up and coming eigth graders on varsity which will help a lot and that’s a lot of young players in a class for this program.”
This is a program like a lot of Class 1A schools as mostly everyone will start both sides of the football. So I will mention the starters all combined in one.
The best player in the program returns in Tulane commit TE/DE Traville Frederick, who’s 6-4, 236 pounds with 4.7 speed. I think this kid has a chance to be the next NFL player from the program since Hiram Eugene came out in the early 2000s from Jeanerette HS. The trenches will feature some talented big guys who return from last year. The Tigers return a three-year starter and senior OL/DL Jerion Serael (6-2, 285) who has good feet and OG/MLB Andrew Matthews (6-2, 225), who will play linebacker after he lost a lot of weight. Don’t forget about DE/OLB Javonte Williams (6-2 235), who has 4.6 speed and recorded six sacks in 2022, and athletic DT/OL Gregory Green, Jr. (6-2, 245).
The skill spots you have are RB/FB Desean Tolbert 5-10 210, senior QB/ATH Zyon Colar (5-10, 183) is the field general of the team and is a sleeper according to his coach. You also have FS/WR Dominick Lewis (6-2, 175),
(5-7, 160) who played as a 8th grader in 2022, and four-year starting OLB Jamouri Walters (6-1, 180, 4.6 speed) who led the team in tackles in 2022. You also have WR Levi Boykin, a new starter with 4.5 speed and senior RB/WR Steven Lively (5-6, 160) who is a big-time playmaker with special moves in the open field.
