LAFM: For starters, what’s your current height, weight, and forty time?
JO: My current height is 6’3” and my current weight would probably be 244. My forty is 4.7.
LAFM: Are you originally from Louisiana?
JO: Yes sir. I was born in Baton Rouge, stayed there until I was two or three then moved to New Orleans.
LAFM: Which teams did you root for growing up?
JO: Growing up I rooted for the Florida Gators, of course the Saints, the Pittsburgh Steelers and Indianapolis Colts.
LAFM: When did you first start playing football?
JO: When I was in eighth grade. My brother was playing in high school so I thought I’d try it out.
LAFM: Has it always been a big part of your family? Have you had any family members who have played football in the past?
JO: No sir, actually I have family members that aren’t in my immediate family that play football. Of people in my family I think my cousin’s cousin is Prince Amukamara. The first player in my immediate family was my brother.
LAFM: Do you play any other sports?
JO: No sir, just football.
LAFM: Do you play any other positions besides defensive end?
JO: I play all over the defensive line.
LAFM: Is there anyone in college or the Pros that you look up to or try to model your game after?
JO: Probably before his recent problems, Ndamukong Suh. He plays with rage and is relentless. Every single play he’s trying to make a play.
LAFM: What do you think is your biggest strength as a player?
JO: My hits coming off the ball and my ability to deliver a blow to the offensive lineman.
LAFM: What part of your game are you trying to improve upon most?
JO: Probably my pass rush, I think I have two or three moves right now. I want to have eight or nine to be more versatile.
LAFM: Have you been to any camps at this point? If so, which ones?
JO: I went to the LSU and Alabama camps and attended the Texas A&M camp but did not participate.
LAFM: Have you heard from any coaches or received any offers?
JO: Right now I’m verbally committed to Texas A&M. I’ve received offers from Arizona, Baylor, Cal, Colorado, Louisiana Tech, Memphis, Nebraska, North Texas, Northwestern, Pitt, Southern Miss, Tulane, Vanderbilt, ULL, ULM, and I think Missouri. I’ve been recruited by other schools but I think that’s it.
LAFM: Is playing close to home a big factor in your recruitment?
JO: I’ll always think about it as a big factor but if I found a college that was the right place for me it wouldn’t matter. If two colleges were equal, distance would become a factor.
LAFM: Have you thought about what you might want to study in college?
JO: I’m stuck between Engineering, Business, or Criminal Justice.
LAFM: What are some goals you’ve set for next season?
JO: Obviously I know I’ll probably be redshirted, but I want to be a true freshman on the team in the rotation. I’m looking to learn, I’m not looking for stats. Next season I just want to let the coaches know they have a young, experienced player in the future that can produce. I just need to get familiar with the system because I’m switching from a 4-3 to a 3-4 defense. Once I’m familiar and I learn my plays I can be successful at the next level.
LAFM: Which school is your favorite to play against, or which game gets you the most fired up each year?
JO: Archbishop Rummel High School.
LAFM: What are some of the most memorable games or plays you’ve been a part of?
JO: Last year against Archbishop Rummel High School I remember my best friend right next to me and he says, “We need a play from you. We need a play from you.” It’s second and long and I knew if I made a play the game would be over. I put it in my head that I needed to make a play. The ball was snapped and I got a sack.
LAFM: And lastly can you give us your current GPA and ACT score?
JO: My GPA is 3.5 and my ACT is a 21.
