McKinney Evans
Lee with Istrouma Head Coach McKinney Evans

I meet McKinney Evans almost 15 years ago, when he was coaching at Istrouma for the first time. It was really good to see coach again in Baton Rouge as the Head Coach again at Istrouma for his second stint, going into his second year. Coach Evans spent several years coaching at some big time programs in the Dallas, Texas, area. This is a man that loves coaching and is great with kids. He’s tough in a good way, stays on his players to do the right things, and big on academics and athletics. I feel like coach could easily be a principal as well. Istrouma will be a young and talented team in 2010, with a team of mostly young talented skill players. Coach Evans lost his whole starting 5 on the Offensive Line that averaged over 270 pounds a man. These kids started three years as a group and this will be tough to replace. I enjoyed my visit with the players, and feel like in time this will be a good team. This team will be fast and athletic for 2010.

Jarred Rogers

Jared Rogers - Episcopal

Episcopal is known for its high ACT scores and high ratio of kids going to college every year, but you never hear a lot about the good football teams this school produces every year. You hear a lot about the Basketball teams and track teams that are really good, but football is lead by a Head Coach by the name of Travis Bourgeois, who’s quietly been at the school coming up on 16 years. Travis has really done a great job as a Teacher and football coach for these young men in 16 years. This is not a school that lines up and plays football with DI prospects all over the roster. They play with what they have, and every year they find a way into the playoffs with hard work discipline and really good coaching.

This year SR/RB Jared Rogers who is 5-9 and a strong built 170 pounds, muscled kid, will be the top prospect for the team in 2010. He rushed for over 1,000 yards. What a great kid to talk too. I feel he’s a big time sleeper, not big in stature, but very fast and smart football player. This will be a team small again overall in stature, but they’re like hornets, it stings to play them because they play hard, and you have to match that or you will lose to them. QB Dellocanno will be one to watch also. This kid has a very good arm and is very athletic.

I would like to thank Head Coach Travis Bourgeois for lunch at the high school, ( by the way the food is really good at the school), and Assistant coach Randy Richard, a Catholic high Alum of Baton Rouge and former LA Tech grad for his help with film and whatever I need when I go there.
