| Logan Metcalfe |
August 15, 2011 - In the Baton Rouge Metro Area at Central High School there’s a Safety prospect named Logan Metcalfe who is 6-0, 190 pounds and runs a 4.6 in the forty. From watching this kid play, Logan is a sleeper because he is just starting to hit his size. He played at 175 pounds in 2010 compared to playing at 185 to 190 in 2011 for his senior season. Logan has started now going on three years as a Free Safety and some at Strong Safety.
In college he’s more suited for Free Safety, and he would make a great leader on defense. This kid always seems to be in position to make a tackle, and he always seems to be around the football every play. I’m excited to see what he can do now that he’s a little bigger and able to show the college coaches a little more when he’s delivering hits on the big Running Backs and Wide Receivers that he has to face every week in a tough Class 5A district.
Logan is a top student in the classroom with a GPA of 3.4 and a high ACT of a 21. Central might have their best front seven in three years, and that will do nothing but help Logan as a Defensive Back. He’ll have a team in front of him that’s able to rush the Quarterback more in 2011, which will give him more opportunities to make plays for interceptions and deflections.

I Hope you enjoy the interview below with writer Mark Clements.
Interview by Mark Clements
LAFM: For starters, what’s your current height, weight and forty time?
LM: Six-foot, 190 and a 4.6.
LAFM: Are you originally from Louisiana?
LM: Yes sir, from Baton Rouge, around the Central area.
LAFM: Which teams did you root for growing up?
LM: Growing up I was pulling for Florida. I just liked Tim Tebow.
LAFM: When did you first start playing football?
LM: Second grade.
LAFM: Has it always been a big part of your family? Have you had any family members who played football in the past?
LM: My uncle went to LSU and played his first year. He quit because it was too much but he was All-District back when he was young. My dad played, all my uncles play, my cousin plays at Southeastern right now. It’s been a part of my family for a long time.
LAFM: Do you play any other sports?
LM: No sir, I ran track my sophomore year.
LAFM: Do you play any other positions?
LM: Yes sir, I play free safety, but I also play a little bit of strong. But mainly I just play at free. I play a little bit of receiver every now and then but mainly I just stay at free.
LAFM: Do you think you’re better at strong safety or free safety, and where do you see yourself playing at the next level?
LM: I can go through either one. I played strong safety my sophomore and junior year and then our free safety last year graduated. I knew the defense the best and I’ve been through it all so they put me back there.
LAFM: Is there anyone in college or the Pros that you look up to or try to model your game after?
LM: A little bit of John Lynch or Rodney Harrison.
LAFM: What do you think is your biggest strength as a player and what part of your game are you trying to improve upon most next year?
LM: I think it’s my speed I have to improve. Mainly my strong point is communication and communicating with the team and being a leader.
LAFM: Have you been to any camps at this point? If so, which ones?
LM: Yes sir, I’ve been a few – McNeese, South Alabama, ULM, Southeastern, Southern Miss, Louisiana Tech.
LAFM: Which colleges have you heard from or received offers from?
LM: No sir, I don’t have any offers yet, but Northwestern contacted me some and the DB coaches have talked to me from every college. They’re waiting to see if I have a great senior season.
LAFM: Which schools stick out right now at the top of your list?
LM: I like McNeese and ULM the most. I think mainly they stick out the most to me because I want to go into a pharmacy program and ULM has a great pharmacy program and McNeese has a great nursing program.
LAFM: What are some goals you’ve set for next season, for yourself and for the team?
LM: As every team wants, we want to try to make it to the state championship and I think we have a good shot. But mainly just for everybody to have a great season. I want to try to get at least 80 tackles or 75 tackles or somewhere around there.
LAFM: Which school is your favorite to play against, or which game gets you the most fired up each year?
LM: I would say Zachary gets me the most fired up. We play them week 7 and it’s always just a fired up game for us. It’s a heated rivalry - them and Denham Springs, too.
LAFM: What are some of the most memorable games or plays you’ve been a part of?
LM: I’d say Catholic High my sophomore year in ’09 was a great game. We beat them 60-21 and I had just come into varsity and was starting as a sophomore. They were explaining the whole rival between Central and Catholic and I didn’t really get it, but now it sticks out to me and I know what the rivalry really is.
LAFM: And lastly can you give us your current GPA and ACT score?
LM: My current GPA is around a 3.3 or 3.4 and my highest ACT score is a 21.
