July 26, 2011 - When I think of Donaldsonville High School, I think of the great skill players and lineman that have come out over the years like Howard Green (6-2, 325) and Jarvis Green (6-3, 260), two great players.  Howard played for the Green Bay Packers, and Jarvis is now retired and was formerly with the New England Patriots in the NFL.  I remember watching the Green brothers, DE Jarvis Green and LB Jason Green (6-1, 220), and their cousin DT Howard Green all on the same team at Donaldsonville High School from 1993 to 1996.

In 2011, there is another team made up of great players, and today I will talk about one of them, RB Tre Brown.  Tre Brown is a hidden gem if you don’t watch the game closely like I do.  Since his freshman year, this kid has had speed, speed, and more speed to help the team in many ways.  We’re talking about a kid you can walk on a track and run a 10.9 in the 100 meters on a bad day.  He has run a 10.8 and could run in the 10.6 or 10.7‘s his senior season in track.  Tre has good hands catching the ball, and really good vision in open field.  If he gets past the linebackers, they can kiss their chances of catching him goodbye.

This is a 5-9, 180 pound ripped up, muscle built player with shake and bake moves with the ball, and he runs with power.  When players hit him, I always notice that he falls forward, even if it’s a LB hitting him.  He has the strength in his legs to carry the ball 20 to 25 times a game, but he never will because they have a DI athlete in Devon Breaux who also runs the ball a lot.  It’s very deceiving that he that he doesn’t have a lot of carries or a ton of stats, but if you look at how many long runs he has and the amount of carries and big plays he makes when he does carry the ball you know he’s big time.

Read more about Tre Brown and the Donaldsonville team in our 2011 issue of Louisiana Football Magazine. You can pre-order the magazine at www.lafootballmagazine.com/store, and be sure to order now because limited copies will be available.
