| Kevin Fouquier |
July 5, 2011 - One of the most athletic big guys in the state of Louisiana for the Class of 2012 is Kevin Fouquier from Comeaux High School in Lafayette, Louisiana. Kevin is 6-4 in height and weighs between 215 and 220 pounds every fall for the football season. I’ve watched Kevin play a number of positions including Quarterback, Linebacker, and Free Safety since his sophomore year at Comeaux High School. When I filmed Kevin as a QB, you see this tall, lean, but muscle built, and broad shouldered kid running the football. He has a lean like a Running Back, and the speed of a Wide Receiver taking on whoever gets in his way, with his 4.5 speed in the forty yard dash. I see a kid with a natural arm when he throws the ball, meaning it’s strong but just hasn’t played the position long enough to be polished. When I watch him as a Linebacker, he reminds me of a faster version of former Acadiana High School Linebacker Jacob Cutrea (6-3, 230 pounds in high school) who ran a 4.6/40 and has the same build as Kevin. Jacob Cutrea is now a Linebacker with the Jacksonville Jags in the NFL and played at LSU in college. Fouquier just needs to be more filled out. Jacob was already college size in weight his senior year for the Rams.
I would not rule out Kevin as a Free Safety, because he reads, loves to hit, and can get the ball anywhere on the field very fast if he keeps his weight at 220 pounds. I personally see this kid as a Linebacker for anyone in America. At 215 to 220 in weight, he will easily be in the 235 to 240 range in weight without getting stiff and be one big kid playing a position where it’s hard to find kids 6-4, 240, that will run a 4.5 or 4.6/40 in college. It’s scary how good he will be just being able to play his more natural position in college. I admire him for being a team player and playing both sides of the ball for his team to give Comeaux High School a better chance to win some games with him on the field the whole time.
If Kevin would have played just one position in the last three years, or just be able to rest some, he would be a Parade All American by now. However, what matters in the end is that he will go to a big time College and play in a big time Conference at the end of the day. This kid comes from not just a great family, but a great football family. His dad, also Kevin Fouquier, was the Defensive Coordinator for The University of Louisiana - Lafayette Ragin Cajuns for several years through 2010. College football teams love a team player and someone who doesn’t complain, and this kid has done everything his coach has asked of him to help the team win.
What I like a lot too, is this kid plays big time competition every week, so he sees fast big skill kids, and fast Defensive Ends and Linebackers every week in 5A Football as a Quarterback. You also see his speed against some fast Running Backs and Quarterbacks when he’s on Defense in one of the more physical Districts in the State with speed to judge for the next level in the Acadiana Area.
I think it helps when your dad knows the game so well, and you grow up around college football and recruiting like this kid did his whole life while moving around to where his dad would coach College Football every year. Some lucky school will get his signature in the end, and it will be a name you remember for a long time once he hits his potential in college and fills out.

Interview by Taylor Williams
LAFM: When did you first start playing football, and has it always been a big part of your family?
KF: I started in middle school, seventh grade, and yeah, it’s always been big in my family. My dad is a coach, and they just had a coaching change at his school, so now he can chill out and watch my senior year.
LAFM: And did he play in college, along with any of your other relatives?
KF: Yeah he was a tight end in college, and I’m the oldest in my family so I’ll be the first besides him.
LAFM: Are you originally from Louisiana?
KF: No, I’m really from all over the South. I was born in Texas, moved to Louisiana, then to Arkansas, then Tennessee. And then we moved to Miami before making our way back to Louisiana.
LAFM: So with all those different residences, were there any teams you consistently rooted for?
KF: LSU; I always rooted for LSU cause my dad is from Louisiana and has always watched them. And then really just whatever team my dad was coaching for.
LAFM: What are you trying to improve upon most next year as a quarterback?
KF: As a quarterback, mechanics; you can always be sharper with your mechanics. Reads too, that’s something that’s tough at my school because we don’t throw a lot, but I’ve got to get better on all my reads. And footwork; the throwing is the easy part, but the footwork is something you really have to be thinking about.
LAFM: And what do you think your biggest strength is as a player?
KF: Just my versatility, because quarterback’s not the only thing I play.
LAFM: What other positions?
KF: Running back, receiver, safety, and outside linebacker. Like I said, quarterback’s not the only thing I play.
LAFM: Sounds like you’re a jack of all trades out there. What do you see yourself being recruited as?
KF: I’ve been offered as an athlete by most of the smaller schools. LSU, they offered me; [defensive coordinator] John Chavis is looking hard for an outside linebacker. North Carolina offered me as an athlete, Texas A&M, and The University of Louisiana - Lafayette also offered me as an athlete; Arkansas State and McNeese as quarterback. I’m going to see how summer goes and weigh my options.
LAFM: So what camps, if any, have you been to at this point?
KF: Well I just got back from the Under Armour camp but that’s it at this point.
LAFM: Have you thought about what you might want to study in college?
KF: Yeah, actually, pre-law.
LAFM: What are some goals you’ve set for next season, for yourself and the team?
KF: Personally, I’ve already reached my goal of being offered and feeling like I’m being taken care of at the next level; I don’t have to worry about that anymore. So it’s really just about the team, and I want us to get past the second round. We’ve never done it at Comeaux; we’ve been close and I really want that for us.
LAFM: You mentioned your dad is a coach and has been influential to you as a player, but what about your head coach?
KF: I’ve played for two head coaches; we had a coaching change my sophomore year. I really liked Coach Long, was sad he had to go, but Coach Magee, he’s from Crowley, he came in and changed a lot of things. He’s very attentive to the little things; that’s what he preaches, and I think that his way of bringing attention to detail to the team is going to pay off, even after I leave.
LAFM: Can you talk about some games that are memorable for either you or the team playing particularly well?
KF: Really the games at the end of the season. Last year was a rebuilding year because the year before that we’d lost about 30 seniors. So last year we were rebuilding and it was good to end on a strong note against Central Lafourche when everything was just clicking.
LAFM: Is that one of your bigger rivalries?
KF: No, that was a just a game where it seemed like everything came together. Sadly, our biggest rivalry and the game that gets me most fired up is against a team we won’t play this year, STM, who is separated from Comeaux by one street about as big as the track around this field.
LAFM: What about other sports?
KF: Yes, basketball we just got done at Comeaux and we went pretty far, lost to the state champs St. Augustine. And right now I’m in track. But I’m not getting recruited for basketball, I just do it to stay in shape and get quicker.
LAFM: And finally, what are your current height, weight, and forty time?
KF: 6-4, 212, but I’m normally about 220. And I haven’t ran the forty since last year, so unofficially, it’s a 4.5
