July 1, 2011 - Three football players from West St. Mary High School in the city of Baldwin, Louisiana, have committed to DIV 1 Colleges for the 2012 Recruiting Class. RB/ATH Jontrey Tillman (5-9, 180, Sr., 4.41/40) committed to Stanford, OT/DE Jerald Hawkins (6-6, 270, 4.8/40) committed to LSU, and Athlete Daijuan Stewart (5-11,170, 4.41/40) committed to SMU.
I want you to know some really interesting facts, so you can understand why this is so historic for West St. Mary High School. West St. Mary prior to this had only two players sign DI in the history of the school. They were LB Harry Coleman who played for LSU and was with the Saints last year, but he’s now with the UFL team, and Kicker Carlos Alvarez to the University of Louisiana at Lafayette who signed as a true freshman for this upcoming season.
West St. Mary coach Ryan Antoine said, “We only have 30 players on our football team total, and under 300 kids in the school.” I find that amazing, and if you saw these kids play like I did in 2010, you would be so impressed with the amount of speed and talent they have in that 30 player group.
Jerald Hawkins reminds me of Ken Allen, former DT from LSU and the NFL Cincinnati Bengals. Tillman and Stewart both run under 10.7 in the 100 meters and can play CB, RB, SS, or WR in college.
