June 21, 2011 - Scotlandville High School has produced some very good players in the past few years, like Running Back Brandon Bolden (5-11, 225) from Ole Miss and a future NFL player, Linebacker Herman Lathers (6-0, 230) from Tennessee and a future NFL draft pick, Defensive Back Korey Lindsey (6-0, 193) a recent NFL draft pick who played at Southern Illinois, Offensive Tackle Dallas Thomas (6-5, 300) from Tennessee and a future NFL draft pick, and recent 2011 signee Defensive End Lloyd Allen (6-4, 240) to Houston Cougars and a future NFL player. Current Linebacker Henry Taylor, who I recently wrote about, has a bright future too, as well as a handful of others on the current 2011 team at Scotlandville High School.
Leading the team this year is Baker native Ken Hilton, who enters his second year as the head coach. Ken has a tradition of producing great players, and I think Scotlandville will be much improved having Coach Hilton back for his second year with these kids. Ken Hilton played football at Baker High School in 1993. I remember seeing Coach Hilton play in person a few times and he was a big time player as an Offensive Lineman. He signed with McNeese State in Lake Charles, Louisiana, where he finished in 1998, and finished grad school at Southern University in 2001. I remember Ken being an all out player who had good feet, and always gave 100 percent as an Offensive Lineman at Baker High School.
Ken Hilton has a very impressive resume for such a young coach. He was an assistant coach at Tara, Baker, Redemptorist, and Plaquemine, as well as Head Coach at McKinley, Baker, and now Scotlandville. Ken was the Defensive Line coach in 2001 when Baker High School was the State Runner Up in the Superdome. Ken was named 2006 Metro coach of the year and District coach of the year, and he was Defensive Coordinator in 2008 for a Semi –Finalist Redemptorist team.
If Scotlandville can avoid major injuries which plagued them in 2010, they have a chance to do great things in 2011 with Head Coach Ken Hilton and a very good staff in 5A ball.
I will have more on the Scotlandville Hornets in the 2011 Preview Issue, which you can pre-order at www.lafootballmagazine.com/store.
Notes
- Running Backs Coach Bobby Jones played at La Tech and the 1978 State Championship St. Mary’s High School football team in Natchitoches, LA.
- Defensive Line Coach Larry Clark, has a son who we will write about in the future who’s a starting Wide Receiver for the current Scotlandville football team.
