May 27, 2011 - I recently visited with Kenny Guillot, one of the top head coaches in Louisiana from Parkview Baptist.  I asked Coach Guillot about this past year’s State Championship Team and overcoming some big losses to win the 3A State Title in 2010.

He said, “Lee not many people will remember, but we started off the season 3-2 after 5 games, with losses to Acadiana, the 5A State Champ, and Dutchtown, the #1 seed in 5A.  Some people might have questioned how good we really were, but we overcame that and were able to win the state title in 2010.”

In my opinion Kenny Guillot is one of the best Offensive Line coaches in high school football anywhere. Kenny will always have a tough, strong, and deep offensive line, whether they’re tall DI, stocky, strong, and built or a bunch of IAA or D3 short stocky kids.  One of the two will line up every year and play smash mouth football until the clock runs down to zero every game.  All of Kenny’s teams will always be strong in the weight room, which always pays off in a long tough season in 3A ball in Louisiana.

Kenny started coaching in 1968, and will begin his 34th year overall in the business. Guillot was an Offensive Line Coach at both Nicholls State for 6 years and McNeese State for 3 years. In 12 years as head coach at Parkview Baptist, Kenny has a record of 133 wins and 34 losses. He also has 7 District Championships, 3 State Championships and 1 Runner up at Parkview Baptist.  Kenny has made the playoffs 13 out of 14 years as a head coach, and has made it to the quarterfinals or better 11 out of 14 years in high school football.

Parkview Baptist Notes

I was able to talk to former Eagle player Anthony Camp who is the Current Defensive Line coach at Parkview Baptist, and signed with Arkansas State out of high school at Parkview Baptist.  He finished and had a really good career at McNeese State.  I asked about former Parkview Baptist player Orrin Fontenot who’s also at McNeese State for this coming year.

Anthony said, “Orrin has a chance to start this year after redshirting in 2010 for McNeese State.  He is up to 6-2, 245 pounds now, and at worst will be on the 2 deep as a Defensive End for the Cowboys this coming year.”

Anthony Camp played Defensive End for McNeese State, after signing as a Linebacker at Arkansas State just like Orrin did in 2010 with McNeese State.  Orrin was a 6-2, 225 pound Linebacker at Parkview Baptist.

Anthony Camp still goes back and works camps for McNeese State every summer.

I will have more information on Parkview Baptist in the Football Preview in August.
