May 23, 2011 - In 1996, I would often run into an offensive line coach from Tulane while visiting high schools and his name was David Oliver who is now head coach for the St. Amant Gators in Gonzales, Louisiana. David back then was recruiting for Tulane and would cover a lot of the Baton Rouge schools, and I would see him at many schools trying to get a look at the best players. David Oliver coached at Tulane from 1996 to 2001. David then coached at Southern University from 2002 to 2006 again on the offensive side of the ball for then head coach Pete Richardson.
David is 10-19 at St. Amant since 2007. I will say this. Most of those losses were his first year where Coach did not inherit a lot of talent. I think St. Amant is back to the old days for the 2011 season, and people will see how coach has rebuilt St. Amant from scratch and back to stability.
David is a master teacher of the Offensive Line and he brings a wealth of knowledge for the offensive side of the ball for the high school level. If you watch him teach Offensive Lineman how to play the position you will understand that’s why he did it at the college level so well. St. Amant will be big and quick on the Offensive Line in 2011, and the running game will be strong as well as the QB position.

St. Amant in 2011 will have more depth than they have had in several years on both sides of the ball. I was able to see this with my own eyes recently taking in a practice.
Notes
David Oliver comes from a Military family. His dad was a Colonel in the US Air Force. David Oliver is from Colorado Springs, Colorado.
Veteran coach and former head football coach of the St. Amant Gators, Doug Moreau, is still coaching football and helping David Oliver on the offensive side of the ball. Doug Moreau won a State Title as Head Football Coach at Winnfield High School in North Louisiana in 1982.

Head Basketball Coach and friend Gary Duhe was recently diagnosed with Cancer, and I had a chance to talk to him. He’s very upbeat and will go for treatments at MD Anderson in Houston very soon. I know Gary will recover from this and be back coaching Basketball at St. Amant and helping with Football for next year.
