May 12, 2011 - One of the nicest coaches in the state and smartest high school coaches to win year in and year out with never a ton of gifted talent, but great tough kids who work hard, with great fan support is Lewis Cook, head coach from Notre Dame High School.
Some interesting facts that not a lot of people know about Lewis Cook outside of Crowley or the city of Lafayette is famous QB Jake Delhomme was signed out of high school in 1993 from Teurlings Catholic High School by Lewis Cook for then USL Ragin Cajuns . Lewis Cook was also Jake’s QB coach while at USL before he made it big in the NFL.
Lewis Cook had two coaching stints at USL (4 years each) totaling 8 years. Coach Cook has 267 wins in his career and Two State Championships at Notre Dame. He also has a State Championship from Crowley High School. Louis Cook has 167 wins in 14 years at Notre Dame high school. That’s a whopping average (get this) of almost 12 wins a season for 14 years. Wow!
I asked coach about the last four years at Notre Dame, and I think the public will be amazed with this answer. He said, “Lee, my team from the last 4 years never lost a regular season game. They won 52 games from 2007 to 2010, and lost just 3 games. What’s more remarkable about this feat by Notre Dame and Coach Cook is out of the three losses one was in the Superdome for the State Title and other two in the playoffs. To give you an idea of how good a coach Coach Cook is, only 3 players signed DI scholarships during the 52 wins and 3 losses time frame from 2007 to 2010.
Some notable players to leave Notre Dame that signed DI under Coach Cook were 6-6, 300 pound OT Cade Comeaux to LSU, coach’s son QB Jeff Cook to LSU and UL Lafayette, LB Jake Molbert, UL Lafayette, OG David Berken, Rice, Kicker Hunter Stover, UL Lafayette, and LB D J Welter to LSU.
