April 7, 2011 - I had a chance to talk to Lent Bursey, former Head Coach of Fair Park High School and former coach of LSU Star CB Morris Claiborne. Morris played six positions for Fair Park High School. They were Punt Return, Kick Return, QB, DB, WR and RB. I know this because we filmed Morris in high school and I saw him score at all six positions in several games. Coach Bursey had some good things to say about Morris Claiborne.
“Morris told me that he’s ready to get started for the season. I saw where he was recently was ranked one of the top 20 players in the country. This kid is really going to be a good one for the NFL. I know last year he ran a 4.3 forty hand timed and a 4.4 laser timed at 179 pounds, but he told me he was up to 6-1, 192 or 193 and I think he’s still as fast as last year. I’m coming down to watch the LSU Spring game in Tiger Stadium. He’s the best I’ve ever coached, and I’ve coached some good ones. He’s the complete package,” said Bursey.
I mentioned to Coach that I remembered when he gave me film on Morris after his junior year of high school. I was shocked that no one had offered him after the Spring of his senior season, and I thought he was better than WR Reggie Robinson from LSU, DB Ronnie Prude from LSU, LB Pat Rogers from LSU, and several others that came out in the past from Fair Park High School. Coach Bursey said, “Yes, I remember that very well.”
Lent Bursey was head coach at Fair Park for a few years, and was recently named the new head coach of Rayville High School right outside of Monroe. I’ve met Lent a few times in Shreveport at Fair Park High School, and he’s a coach that knows talent. He did not have a lot of talent at Fair Park, but he always did well considering what he had. Lent will do well at Rayville and inherits some really good talent. Bursey has family in the area.
