March 15, 2011 - I had a chance to ask Riggins Dore some questions about his current college football team Belhaven College in Jackson, MS.  It’s always good to catch up with these kids and I wanted the public and Louisiana to know a little bit more about Riggins and future recruits to know more about Belhaven college.

Riggins Dore played high school football at Comeaux High School in Lafayette, Louisiana, but has become a really good football player in college.  He played as a true freshman, and is currently a senior going in to the 2011 football season.

Q: Why did you choose Belhaven for football?

A: At the time i had four different colleges to choose from. I chose Belhaven because they ran the spread offense. For a reciever this is a dream offense, they throw 80% of the time. Belhaven is also a smaller school so it gave me a chance for a better education and a better chance to play. The biggest reason i went to Belhaven was because of Coach White. He was the recievers coach at the time and his enthusiasm about the school and the way the program was heading made me want to be a part of it.

Q: Current Height and Weight?

A: 5'11, 175.

Q: What is it like to live out of state to play football?

A: It is a big change living in Mississippi then it is in south Louisiana. it's a completely different culture. The food is the biggest thing to get used to, they don't make their food as spicy as they do down here. yet, the people are friendly and will go out of their way to help you. it took me a little while to get used to not being at home and being in a completely different state then i grew up in, but i met people who have been huge influences on my life. I have made friends there who i will be friends with for the rest of my life. Another big difference is it gets a lot colder there then it does here. it has snowed every year since i've been there. It was a nice change, because i got to witness my first snow storm and have my first snowball fight while at school. that took me awhile to get used to, im used to wearing sweat pants and a sweater and being fine here, as there i have to completely cover up to keep warm.

Q: What is it like to play in the Mid South Conference and who are your Rival Schools?

A: The Mid South Conference is one of the hardest conferences. We have great all around teams from both sides of the conference. There is never anyone expected to win the conference outright.  each team is good, so every week is a challenge there is never a time that going into the game you know your going to win. It is always going to be a battle to the end. Our biggest rival in my eyes in Bethal University (Tenn.). we each have a real dislike for each other, and every year the games comes down to the last seconds to see who the winner is. there are also two in town school teams who we are rivals with, even though they are not in our conference. Millsaps College and Mississippi College are within minutes of our school. Everytime we play one of them it turns into a big ordeal because that gives bragging rights to the players from that team until the next time we meet.

Q: What positions do you play for Belhaven?

A: I'm going into my senior season next fall and i will be playing slot reciever and deep snapper. I started deep snapping my freshman and sophmore years. My junior year i concentrated strictly on reciever and earned a spot playing towards the end of our season. This year I plan on starting at slot reciever and deep snapper this coming season. I want to be the leading reciever on our team and lead us to a conference championship.

Q: What are your thoughts about the upcoming season 2011 Season?

A: Watch out for Belhaven because we are coming for it all this year.

Q: What would you tell future recruits that might want to play for Belhaven?

A: I'd tell them it's a good school to go to it will pay off in the long run when they graduate. It is one of the best educations you will get. It's a great place to play with a great team to play with. We have a good coaching staff who will help try and get you on the field. As long as a recruit comes in and works hard and does what they are supposed to do they will find play time somewhere on the field. if it's on offense, defense, or special teams they will find a place to play. Then the best thing about this school is the players they will play with. There are some of the hardest working players i have ever met. They are dedicated to winnging a championship. Then they will also be some of your best friends by the time you leave here.

Q: Any players in professional sports from Belhaven?

A: Tremaine Brock plays corner for the 49's. Jacob Phillips played for the Seahawks as a offensive lineman for a while now he is playing for the New Orleans Voodoo. There are two other players who are graduating this year who have scouts looking at them. They are Cardario Calvin a reciever and Jack Hayes a defensive linemen. there are many other players who have a chance from our school to make it to the league, but they just need a chance to get their foot in the door.

Q: Who are some of your teammates from Louisiana?

A: There are two fellow seniors I play with who have been great friends of mine all four years of college. Tre Lansing who plays defensive end and is from Central of Baton Rouge. Then Cody Goulart who plays center and is from Tioga High School. Jonathan Reed played cornerback for us and went to Pineville High School. Then there is a fellow reciever who is up and coming. His name is John Singleton, he went to Glenbrook High School. All four of these guys are great close friends of mine and will always be a part of my life.

Q: What are your goals for the 2011 Football Season?

A: Help team win conference championship, leading wide reciever in receptions and yardage, and leading the team in special teams tackles.
