March 11, 2011 - I had a chance to talk to Athlete Ian Bordes of Catholic of New Iberia who has decided to report to the US Army football program in the fall at West Point for the 2011 class. I asked Ian why he chose the US Army and this is what he had to say about that choice.
“I chose Army because I’ve always wanted to join the Army. In April of 2010 I discovered West Point’s website on an Army recruiting site and using Lafootballmagazine.com to learn more. After doing my research I was hooked on Army. I want to become the best soldier I can be for my Country, the United States, and I know that is possible through West Point. My ultimate goal would be joining the Army Rangers and I know West Point will only give me the edge to complete that dream. Along with Army’s prestigious academics, I’ve been dreaming of being a Black Knight for some time.”
If you don’t know how it works and your reading this, you have to try out for the DI football team when you go in the Army, and its not guarantee for some your first year, but I feel like Ian will be a part of their Football program and you will hear about this kid in the future. I filmed this kid over the last three years and I saw him play TE, Punter, DE, LB and some Strong Safety, so your getting a five-position player, who runs a 4.69/40, weighs 216 pounds, and stands currently 6-2 in height. Ian has a current GPA of 3.4 and an ACT test of 26.
He told me his goal is to get up to 220 to 225 in weight for when he reports to West Point, and that he averaged in several games almost 50 yards a punt, and over 40 yards a punt during the season. Army assistant coach Anthony Coaxum was the contact for Ian Bordes for West Point.
