| Ezekiel Alsander |
March 10, 2011 - This week, I had a chance to talk to Louisiana Tech football commitment Ezekiel Alsander from Southern Lab High School about why he chose Louisiana Tech.
I asked Ezekiel to give me 5 reasons why he chose Louisiana Tech as his college in the end on national signing day. Ezekiel said, “1. It’s a family type of school, 2. The coach showed how much he wanted me by recruiting me the whole time, 3. I enjoyed my visit to the school, 4. We have a strong recruiting class at LA Tech, and 5. God told me Tech after my whole family and I prayed about it."
I talked to Ezekiel two days before he was to play for the State Championship game in Basketball for Southern Lab against Grambling High School. I would like to congratulate Alsander because Southern Lab finished the season as the 2011 1A State Runners Up in Basketball. Ezekiel averaged in double figures for his team this year as a Center, and he’s a big reason they made it so far this season in Basketball.
This is a kid that started off as a basketball player in high school, then picked up football as a freshman, and now stands 6-7, 300 pounds. Ezekiel played the season at 325 to 330, but got his weight down for Basketball to 300. This kid has a long wing span, long arms, and is a lean 300 pounds.
I predict this kid will redshirt and after a redshirt season as an OT in college he will start the following year and be a force in DI football. By then he’ll be 6-7, 330 to 340 pounds, and not have any fat on his body.
This is the type of kid SEC teams, Big 10, Pac 10 and Big 12 conferences drool over, but in the end they will all regret not taking this kid, and LA Tech will be looked at as Super Smart recruiters in five years over this one.
I saw this kid play several times over three years, and I will tell you he hasn’t even scratched half his potential yet. From meeting him several times, he’s a great young man.
