March 9, 2011 - I was able to talk to Oberlin High School Running Back Cedric Skinner who did not sign on National Signing Day.

Cedric Skinner had one of the top rushing performances in Louisiana history for one season in 2010. Get this.  Cedric ran for 3,437 yards and 49 Touchdowns, Ladies and Gentleman, and that’s not a misprint. Cedric ran for those yards with an offensive line that averaged only about 215 pounds as a group in today’s high school size range.  That’s a small offensive line he ran behind.

I asked Cedric what he will do for college.

He said, “I’m leaning to sign with Trinity Valley Junior College in Athens, Texas.  My head football coach Pat Miller is talking to them right now about me being a part of their program.”

Cedric has a 15 on his ACT score, and looks to bring that and his grades up while at a Junior College.

I asked Cedric what his childhood favorites were and he told me #1 Texas A&M and then LSU.  I saw Cedric play on film and he was the offense for the team the whole year and carried his team to the playoffs. I consider him a hard working back who is determined, has the toughness you look for, and is more quick than fast. It would be interesting to see how good he could be at the next level having a bigger offensive line block for him, not being the only weapon on the team, and now bigger in size.  Cedric is 200 pounds since the season from 175 pounds which was his playing weight during the season, and he stands 5-10 in height.

It’s amazing that a kid only 175 pounds would run through the tackles time after time again, get the football, and never get hurt to miss any games.  That to me is impressive in itself 3,437 yards later and 49 Touchdowns.
