Brandon Vessell

March 8, 2011 - The past two seasons I saw a QB from Glen Oaks named Brandon Vessell who to me has a lot of untapped potential for college. Brandon is very smart, tough, has good feet in the pocket, and has a good arm. I think the arm will be better over time, because he was such a good athlete learning the position since his junior year.

I had a chance to talk to Brandon on why he chose Alcorn State as his college choice.

“I choose Alcorn State because they were the only school to give me a full scholarship offer to college,” he said.

I asked Brandon if Alcorn State promised early playing time, and he said, “They did not tell me I would play right away, but I think I have a chance going in “

Brandon told me he’s 6-3, 185 pounds currently, and I would like to tell the public who are reading this that he will be 6-3, 215 pounds when he’s done filling out in the next two years, and I predict that he’ll be a great QB in the SWAC Conference.  This kid is a leader, and I’m a little surprised local Southern University did not offer him a  scholarship.  He reminds me a lot of former Glen Oaks QB Eric Randall in build, smarts, and athletic ability coming out of high school.

College and high school coaches who read this will understand when I say this kid has a very lean build at 6-3, 185 pounds.  He will carry that extra weight and still not look 215 pounds.  Glen Oaks did not have the overall running game and Offensive Line size wise to show case this kid for the National level, but Alcorn State sure found a diamond in the rough in the end.
