March 7, 2011 - Every year at this time, most Punters and Kickers who did not sign on signing day have some good opportunities. It’s pretty normal for a few select players to get invites to Major Football programs in DI or IAA for the fall as preferred walk ons, or the opportunity to come and be the guy either kicking off as a kicker, Kicking, Punting, or doing all three.
Mark Minton (6-3, 166 pounds) from Barbe High School is one of those kids. He has a powerful leg, which is proven in the 50 yarder he made this year against Washington Marion High School, and the missed 59 yarder against West Monroe that fell only one yard short. Mark can Punt, Kickoff into the end zone, and kick Field Goals. Mark was also 8/11 in field goals overall in 2010.
Mark has been invited to compete right away at Lamar University, which is nearby in Beaumont, Texas, and SEC improved Mississippi State. He told me he will pray about it and pick the school where he feels the most comfortable in the end. The two schools would like for him to compete and come in as a Kicker, Punter and compete for kickoffs. Mississippi State lost both of their starting Punters and Kickers from last year.
