January 20, 2011 - I spoke with Athlete Darnell Rachal from Riverside High School last week and learned that he was committed to Nicholls State.
"They have a great program, and it's a great place to get a good education," said Rachal about his future school.
Rachal is 5-9, 175 pounds and runs a 4.6/40. In the weight room he benches 225, squats 420, and cleans 225. Rachal had an outstanding senior season where he finished with 1,550 passing yards for 15 touchdowns and 1,700 rushing yards for 33 touchdowns.
Rachal plays quarterback for Riverside, however Nicholls State is recruiting him as a running back.
"My biggest strength as a quarterback is my ability to run and throw the ball," said Rachal. "My strength as a quarterback transfers over to running back so I won't have any problem with the change."
Rachal also does well in the classroom where he carries a 3.2 GPA.
