January 10, 2011 – Former Catholic High Running Back Jeremy Stewart just finished up his senior season at Stanford University. I spoke with Stewart last week and asked him what the experience was like playing in the Orange Bowl.
“It was great. It’s a historic bowl game and weather was nice and we had a great time. As far as the game goes we had a great second half,” said Stewart.
Stewart was injured during the first game of the season and missed the five games after that, but he definitely ended the season well with some great plays that included a 60 yard run for a touchdown.
“It was a great way to end the season,” said Stewart.
I asked Stewart if he’s kept in touch with any of his old teammates from Catholic High and he said he talked to Thomas Broussard who now plays for Samford and Henry Minor who plays for Central Arkansas. Stewart has also met Lance Callihan the 6-3, 295 pound senior DT from Catholic who is committed to Stanford and said he was a “nice kid.”
As a running back it always helps to have a good quarterback, and who better to have at that position than Andrew Luck.
“He’s a great player, and there’s not a lot you can say that hasn’t already been said,” Stewart said.
With the season over and the draft coming up in April I asked Stewart how he felt he would do in the draft. As it turns out, there's a good possibility that he will return to Stanford for another year after applying for a medical hardship waiver which would make him eligible for a fifth season. With Luck returning and Stewart possibly returning, it looks like the Stanford Cardinal will have another excellent season next year.
